JOB OBJECTIVE

The individual hired for this position will assume ownership of and perform a diverse range of tasks, becoming an essential business partner to the Operations team, helping to manage, implement, and achieve critical operations and supply chain objectives and strategies. The Supply Chain Planner serves as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders regarding material movement and supply chain actions and forecasting.

Among other responsibilities, this position requires an understanding of fertilizer production, commodity industries, best practices for material movement and working knowledge of supply chain actions and forecasting. This position will examine existing procedures, opportunities, and relationships to identify opportunities for streamlining activities to meet production and distribution needs while maintaining governance processes to ensure all stakeholders are appropriately involved. The Supply Chain Planner will direct the movement, storage, or processing of inventory. Additionally, this individual will play a role in support of the commercial and finance departments with tasks related to reporting and forecasting. This individual will work alongside the Operations, Finance and Commercial teams to ensure company success. This individual will report to our Vice President of Supply Chain.

Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications/Abilities

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate core competencies in the following areas:

  • Coordination of finished goods and raw material shipments, including frequent interaction with ports, logistics services providers, suppliers, and customers
  • Execution of logistics transport in varying modes such as bulk vessel, barge, rail, bulk trucking and others are needed and/or required
  • Development and management of activities related to finished goods, production, and raw material shipment schedules and financial forecast as well as control of inventory
  • Establishment and management of relationships with warehousing clients/contacts for storage of material in US and internationally
  • Define performance metrics for measurement, comparison, or evaluation of supply chain factors, such as product cost(s)
  • Provide status updates, controls, and shipment follow-up reports to internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Maintain strong governance processes to ensure all stakeholders involved (i.e. Procurement, Transportations, Operations, Finance, Supplier, and Customers) are in alignment on raw material management
  • Understanding and interpreting commercial and operational requirements to meet delivery expectations
  • Supporting commercial and finance areas including required processing and reporting
  • Troubleshooting logistic issues to provide excellent supply chain management and delivery performance
  • Leading digital tool deployment supporting efforts on centralizing and standardizing how to plan and execute finished goods, production, and raw material inventory controls
  • Development of value-add analytics to support decision making
  • Understanding, highlighting, and presenting capacity constraints and work collaboratively with Commercial, Operations, and Finance teams on resolutions as needed
  • Development and presentation of recommendations to improve cost to service customer as business scales
  • Providing input and recommendation on improving supply chain strategies, policies and practices to achieve best-in-class supply chain management practices
  • Providing back up on functions such as shipment execution and planning
  • Leading market intelligence analysis and internal reporting in fertilizer markets, transportation markets, and other relevant markets.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Accounting, Engineering, or Logistics or related field from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years’ experience in supply chain planning
  • Experience with bulk material movement by vessel, rail, and truck
  • Specific experience in moving fertilizer, grain, seed or other agricultural commodity products in the mid-west United States and internationally
  • Market intelligence experience with commodity industries (fertilizer, transportation, etc.)
  • Experience with supply chain technology/application or deployment of digital tools
  • Demonstrated experience developing processes and optimizing supply chain/logistics service within an organization

Minimum Requirements

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States. This company does not sponsor applicants for work visas
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple work locations as needed
  • Strong knowledge of fertilizer production
  • Financial acumen to translate supply chain actions or future planning efforts into financial impacts
  • Strong time management skills and proven ability working with short deadlines
  • Self-motivation and drive to exceed goals while working effectively with minimal direction
  • Critical thinking, problem solving and deductive and inductive reasoning
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills
  • Project management skills
  • Fluent in English language
  • “Day-1 Expert-level” proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • Background checks (criminal/education/employment/reference/credit/DMV) will be performed; results must be satisfactory to the company.

  • Fluent in other languages to assist in improved communications with external international partners and clients preferred but not required
