JobsFirst Overview

JobsFirst is a workforce program in Tulsa that offers professional development, soft skills, education, training, and employment assistance to the unemployed/underemployed in the River West & Comanche Neighborhoods. Our goal is to break the cycle of poverty by empowering individuals and their families with economic prosperity through a two-generation approach.

Make an Impact with Our Team

We’re looking for career coach professionals with exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills who will guide and support customers as they explore new careers, enroll and complete training, and gain employment to build a brighter future for themselves and their families. This position involves working with a team of professionals from the Tulsa Housing Authority and Urban Strategies, Inc. to assist families under the Choice Neighborhoods Implementation (CNI) Grant from the U.S. Department of Human Development. Our goal is to revitalize these communities by supporting the residents and their families through JobsFirst.

The Primary Responsibilities Include:

Intake & Enrollment

  • Establish consistent and recurring office hours at THA sites to drive engagement with Target Residents in collaboration with THA Site Managers
  • Meet with potential customers for JobsFirst to learn about their employment history, educational background, and career goals to identify suitability for the program
  • Evaluate customers' abilities, interests, and individual strengths using assessments, interviews, or professional sources
  • Partner with THA/Urban Strategies Family Support Specialists and Case Managers to conduct outreach to residents about JobsFirst by attending neighborhood events and workshops

Career Coaching

  • Advise customers individually and in small groups in career development techniques, such as job search and application strategies, resume writing, and interview skills
  • Conduct goal-setting meetings with customers and maintain consistent communication to track progress toward their employment, advancement, and/or education and training goals
  • Assess needs and assist customers in overcoming obstacles by making appropriate referrals to internal and external support services

Training & Employment

  • Provide career readiness classes and on-site career workshops for Target Residents at MSG offices and THA sites
  • Enroll customers in educational programs based on interests, aptitudes, or assessment
  • Meet the program’s goals for customers completing training programs, job placement, promotion, and job retention
  • Record daily activity in Salesforce and report weekly progression toward program goals

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of previous mentoring, coaching, or relatable experience
  • Minimum of 4 years successfully working in an office environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with occasional evening and weekend work required
  • Personal transportation that can be used throughout the workday
  • Comfortable conducting presentations in front of small groups or one-on-one setting

Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary education; BA or BS degree preferred
  • Skilled in planning, identifying priorities, and providing solutions
  • Proficient computer skills and experienced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Gmail, and Google Drive, with the ability to adapt to new equipment and technology
  • Desires to be part of a results-driven team that values positivity and collaboration
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative work culture
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce is a plus
  • Experience with Tulsa Housing Authority or public housing is a plus

Job Type: Full-Time

Salary: The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $55,000 annually, based on experience
