Network Design: Design and architect the organization's network infrastructure, including LANs, WANs, VPNs, SD-WAN, and cloud networks. Develop network architecture blueprints, diagrams, and documentation.
- Technology Evaluation: Research and evaluate new networking technologies, products, and services to determine their potential benefits and suitability for the organization's needs. Make recommendations for technology adoption and integration.
- Network Implementation: Oversee the implementation of network infrastructure projects, ensuring that designs are correctly implemented, configurations are properly applied, and systems are thoroughly tested.
- Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor and analyze network performance, identifying areas for optimization and improvement. Implement solutions to enhance network performance, capacity, and reliability.
- Security Compliance: Collaborate with security teams to ensure that the network infrastructure meets security standards and compliance requirements. Implement security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access controls.
- Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Develop and maintain network disaster recovery plans and procedures. Ensure that the network infrastructure is resilient to failures and capable of supporting business continuity objectives.
- Troubleshooting and Support: Provide advanced troubleshooting and technical support for network-related issues. Work with other IT teams and vendors to resolve complex problems and incidents.
- Vendor Management: Manage relationships with network equipment vendors and service providers. Evaluate vendor performance, negotiate contracts, and ensure that products and services meet the organization's requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
- Several years of experience in network engineering or network architecture roles.
- In-depth knowledge of networking protocols, technologies, and standards (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, VPNs).
- Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices.
- Experience with network hardware and software from leading vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto Networks, Arista).
- Proficiency in network design and troubleshooting tools (e.g., Wireshark, SNMP, NetFlow).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Develop secure network designs, maximizing the usage of equipment such as routers and switches.
- Ability to design, deploy, and maintain MPLS, VPN and VRF network cores.
Preferred Certifications:
- Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE)
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) in Routing and Switching or Security
Working Conditions:
- The Network Architect typically works in an office environment, although remote work options may be available.
- May require occasional travel to data centers, branch offices, or vendor locations.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays to perform network maintenance or respond to emergencies
- Monitoring network engineering performance and ensure system availability and reliability
- Configuring and installing various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)
- Performing network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations
