Data Migration Solution Architect -- Mainframe Storage / Hardware Systems Configuration / Disaster Recovery Professional - DASD and TAPE replication

The Sr. Hardware Configuration System programmer will be responsible for configuration of Storage equipment such as DASD AND/OR TAPE . The Expert Hardware Configuration Sysprog, Data Migration will be responsible for configuration of Storage equipment such as Tape and DASD. During new client migrations or hardware upgrades, the Data Migration sysprog will be a point person for moving the client’s data into our client's data center or onto our client's hardware, the coordination of these services from a vendor, or the upgrade of the hardware within the same data center. Will also set up replication for client data from point to point or as part of a grid. Will serve as an escalation point for steady state storage issues where the Storage team is unable to find resolution.

Qualifications:

  • 10 years experience working within a z/OS environment supporting Tape and DASD functions. Experience supporting Disaster Recovery within a mainframe environment.
  • Understanding of migration of data from one subsystem to another for both Tape and DASD.
  • Experience opening tickets with vendors such as IBM.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel to a level of creating documents which can be shared with clients.
  • Experience supporting Disaster Recovery within a mainframe environment.
  • Understanding of migration of data from one subsystem to another for DASD AND /OR TAPE
  • Need experience with configuration of IBM DS8000 series
  • Experience with Logical and Physical storage management
  • Must be familiar with the concept of data replication ( Copy Service Manager or DSCLI ) OR similar products for Dell PowerMax ( good knowledge of Unisphere). Dell DLM/DD (need to be able to interact with Mtree on DD)
  • Experience with TAPE - TS7700 grid knowledge and configuration- a plus
  • Experience with TAPE COPY ( Rocket or 21st Century) or COPY CAT OR Dell's TAPE replication products
  • Experience with TDMF or FDR/PAS ( have executed either of these processes in the past (for moving from one subsystem to another)
  • FCIP / FICON configuration knowledge (nice to have not required for this position)
  • GDDR knowledge ( Nice to have. Not required)
  • GDPS Knowledge (Nice to have. Not required)

Responsibilities -

  • Setup and configure DASD box including LSS updates and Encryption
  • Migrate/replicate DASD data from one location to another. Manage replication using the PPRC synchronous and asynchronous; TDMF, FDRPAS
  • Migrate/replicate Tape data from one location to another with replication methodology that includes Copy Refresh, Grid to Grid Migration, Rocket Tape
  • Setup SMS Constructs, Storage utilization reports for DASD and Tape
  • Architect and build DR solutions from a Storage perspective. Develop DR Plan instructions and handover to the DR Team
  • Provide support for both IBM Storage and EMC systems, ensuring comprehensive assistance across different platforms.
  • Foster a learning culture within the team by conducting training sessions when necessary and encouraging knowledge sharing to support continuous growth and development.
  • Debug storage solutions which are in error
    This includes, debugging issues during the migration; Support for P1/ Major Incidents when requested; DR Drill Support
  • Evaluate proposed solutions for supportability.
  • Support the hiring process by actively participating in technical interviews, ensuring thorough evaluation of candidates' skills and fit for the team
  • Effectively collaborate with cross-functional technical teams, project managers, clients, and vendors throughout projects, while regularly updating managers on project status and promptly communicating any issues

The anticipated hourly rate range for this position is ($80-$90). Actual hourly rate will be based on a variety of factors including relevant experience, knowledge, skills and other factors permitted by law.
