As Software Engineer, this individual will be responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of proprietary software at Chestnut Carbon. They will be tasked with development work across multiple software products within the organization, which will require the ability to work across multiple platforms and languages.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing for Android in Java/Kotlin, desktop applications in C#, and/or databases using SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL). Experience with geodatabases is a plus. Additionally, the candidate should be a strategic thinker with the ability to see the bigger picture.
This position will report to the Director of Technology. The Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development, testing and deployment of software at Chestnut Carbon. They will be sharing development work with a small team across a solution comprised of a mobile app, a desktop application, website integrations and their databases and APIs.

The base salary range for this position is expected to be between $XXX-$XXX, subject to the chosen candidate’s experience, skills, certifications and qualifications.
All employees are eligible to participate in health, insurance, and 401K plan benefits on their first day of employment. Chestnut Carbon pays 100% of the cost of the employees’ health/dental/vision insurance. During each fiscal year of employment, employees will be eligible to earn a discretionary annual incentive bonus, based on company and individual performance targets.

Responsibilities
- Work with other developers to develop a software solution spanning mobile, web and desktop platforms, their databases and relevant APIs
- Participate in the complete software development process from discovery through deployment
- Assist in the design of client-side and server-side solution architecture
- Build the front-end of applications through appealing visual design
- Develop and manage well-functioning databases and applications
- Write effective APIs for communicating between solution endpoints
- Test software to ensure responsiveness and efficiency
- Troubleshoot and debug software
- Write technical documentation to describe the solution, its architecture, setup and maintenance
- Work with product owners to maintain and improve software following deployment
- At least 5 years of experience developing desktop, mobile and/or web applications
- Comfort working with multiple front-end languages and libraries (e.g. PHP, HTML/ CSS, JavaScript, XML, jQuery) as well as multiple back-end languages (e.g. C#, Java, Kotlin, Python)
- Comfortable with geometry, trigonometry, and statistics
- Familiarity with databases (e.g. MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB), cloud hosting (e.g. AWS, Azure) and UI/UX design
- Passionate about sustainability
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves and thrive in a high growth and fast-paced environment
- Ability to work well under deadlines and adapt to changing business priorities
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Degree in Computer Science, Statistics or relevant field
- Ability to self-manage and effectively prioritize
- Some domestic travel (:5%) required
- Authorized to work in the United States
