PATH is a global nonprofit dedicated to achieving health equity. With more than 40 years of experience forging multisector partnerships and with expertise in science, economics, technology, advocacy, and dozens of other specialties, PATH develops and scales up innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing heath challenges.

U.S. locations other than those listed will be considered.

PATH is currently recruiting for a Data Analytics Senior Associate to join the Market Dynamics Program. The Senior Associate will support a variety of projects to push the boundaries of implementing data analytics in Global Health. Immediate program needs include:

  • For a critical medicines project, the successful candidate will create a visualization tool to show access to critical medicines. This requires building a data base from various public and proprietary sources, developing a method to estimate people’s access, implementing it in a server-hosted visualization tool using geospatial information, validating the application with pilot users, and co-authoring a publication.
  • For a medical device project, the associate will maintain a total cost of ownership model capturing. Together with low-and-middle-income country teams they will develop comparative analyses of different medical devices and derive insights that country decision-makers use to inform policies, device preferences, or procurement decisions.
  • For a partner organization, the associate will further advance a model to estimate budgets for a multi-billion dollar investment case. The work requires validating current modelling assumptions of a previously developed data base through stakeholder interviews, advancing predictive models to improve epidemiological forecasts and to fill data gaps, including a method to conduct Monte-Carlo simulations, summarizing the results in presentations to partners, and co-authoring a publication.
  • For a vaccine syringe project the Senior Associate will further advance a prescriptive model to support resilient and climate-responsible sourcing decisions. This includes maintaining and improving a mixed integer linear programming problem, conducting analyses, holding workshops, and developing and holding presentations for our partners.

The Senior Associate will continuously grow their expertise, lend their expertise to a variety of projects in the Market Dynamics program across a multitude of health areas, and grow into a independent role for project acquisition and execution. Projects will require strong collaboration with other programs within PATH, external donors (including those from the private sector), and other global health stakeholders. They will work closely with other Market Dynamics team members to define needs, conduct appropriate analyses and make recommendations on how to improve access to life-saving products.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Translate the business needs into specific parameters for data collection (e.g. indicators, years, populations, prices, volumes etc.), determine data availability, and acquire/extract information through systematic literature review, database queries, design and implement questionnaires, web searches and web scraping, etc.)
  • Collect, systemize, clean, analyze and maintain various data sets.
  • Build and maintain prescriptive (e.g. linear programming, convex optimization) and descriptive models (e.g., cost analysis) with guidance from other project team members.
  • Create static and interactive visualizations for different audiences and business needs, one-off and with recurring maintenance.
  • With support from other project team members, prepare project deliverables (presentations, reports, papers) for submission to donors and presents work to external audiences.
  • Contribute to business development activities through preparation of materials and support of strategic design of proposals.
  • Contribute to regular strategic discussions for project implementation or for the broader Market Dynamics program.

Required skills:

  • Technical skills to fulfill the responsibilities above, shown through prior work and degree, such as:
    • Build and maintain prescriptive models under uncertainty.
    • Collect, systemize, clean, analyze and maintain data sets.
    • Create visualizations of different data and results.
  • Ability to draft succinct reports and presentations.
  • Ability to derive strategic insights from qualitative and quantitative data and analysis for different audiences.
  • Proven effectiveness working in a team-based environment, but capable also of working independently and taking initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Comfortable with working openly and transparently, sharing work-in-progress, failures, successes, and lessons-learned.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter and comfortable in ambiguous situations.
  • Receptive to and values open and honest feedback from colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Versatile and responsive working virtually and collaboratively with teams across the world.
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally up to 10% of the time.
  • Proficiency in MS suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Tableau, PowerBI, and Python required. Experience in statistical analysis in R is a plus. Experience building shiny apps (or similar) is a plus.

Required experience:

  • Degree in a relevant field focusing on mathematical modelling and data analytics (Mathematics, Operations Research, Data Science, Informatics, Business Administration, Economics, Public Health or equivalent). Bachelor’s degree plus 2+ years’ experience or a Master’s Degree plus 1+ years’ of fully relevant experience for the responsibilities outlined above.
  • Experience working with healthcare products is a plus: medical devices, vaccines, drugs and/or diagnostics (preferably in or for developing countries or emerging markets).
  • Direct experience working in or with low-and-middle-income countries or for social-impact causes is a plus.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the country of application (i.e.: United States, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Belgium and/or Kenya).
