Job Description

The main purpose of a licensed vocational nurse (LVN) is to provide essential patient care and support under the supervision of registered nurses or physicians. This includes administering medications, performing routine procedures, and assisting with patient assessments, while collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes. LVNs work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, and military facilities, and they also play a vital role in educating patients about their health and wellness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of registered nurses or physicians.
  • Administer medications and monitor patient reactions.
  • Perform routine procedures such as wound care, vital sign checks, and basic diagnostic tests.
  • Assist with patient assessments and documentation of medical histories.
  • Educate patients and their families on health management and wellness practices.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical and legal standards.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety in the patient care environment.
  • Participate in staff meetings and continuing education opportunities to enhance skills.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements/Certifications:

  • Must possess and maintain a current, active, unrestricted LVN license from any U.S. state, District of Columbia, or U.S. territory.
  • Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) are preferred and may be required depending on the clinical setting.
  • Minimum of one year of LVN experience within the past three years in a relevant clinical specialty.

Education Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of vocational nursing.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, and bend for extended periods.
  • May be exposed to contagious diseases, radiation, and high-stress environments.

Other Special Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.

Additional Information

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.

Compensation Min: $18hr Max: $50hr
