Position Overview
We are seeking a Supplier Technical Engineer (STE) to join the Supply Chain team. The successful candidate will possess extensive technical knowledge in Metal Castings and Machining processes. This role involves technical accountability for assigned purchased parts from New Product Introduction (NPI) through the product lifecycle, including all aspects of quality management. The STE will collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to resolve complex issues, manage tooling, and ensure performance improvement strategies are executed.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain technical accountability for assigned purchased parts from NPI through the product life cycle, ensuring all quality management aspects are addressed.
- Resolve complex technical supplier issues by offering solutions and ideas to improve overall product quality and process performance.
- Communicate technical requirements effectively with suppliers, including design/drawing review, tooling management, and configuration management.
- Monitor supplier quality performance, analyze data, and collaborate with sourcing and purchasing teams to develop improvement strategies.
- Participate in the supplier selection process, providing technical expertise in casting, brazing, and machining, and collaborate with internal teams for ongoing evaluation.
- Work with engineering personnel on matters related to product and process development (CPPD), NPI, and Continuous Process Improvement (CPI).
- Lead the design and process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and support the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
- Develop First Article Production Inspection Test Plans (FAPITP) with input from design engineering.
- Work with design engineering to disposition Reject Notices (RNs) and Requests for Technical Authorization (RTAs).
- Bachelor's Degree in a technical field or equivalent relevant experience.
- Proficient in engineering practices and process planning, including interpretation of drawings, tooling concepts, NDT, and functional tests.
- Experience with metal castings and machining processes.
- Familiarity with quality management principles.
- Strong ethics and professionalism.
- Familiarity with casting process simulation software (e.g., Magmasoft) and pattern design.
- Project management experience, with knowledge of 6 Sigma methodology (Black Belt or Green Belt training).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in using and communicating statistical tools such as root cause analysis and corrective action.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience in handling sensitive issues and fostering consensus among teams.
- Design of Experiment (DOE) experience.
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as turning, milling, and other shop operations.
