Position Overview
We are looking for a Supplier Technical Engineer (STE) to join the team and provide technical accountability for assigned purchased parts from New Product Introduction (NPI) through the product life cycle. The STE will work across all aspects of quality management, including supplier performance improvements, technical problem resolution, and collaboration with suppliers and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Own technical accountability for assigned purchased parts, from initial concept (NPI) through the product life cycle.
- Address complex technical issues and provide solutions to resolve challenging problems with suppliers.
- Communicate technical requirements to suppliers, conduct design/drawing reviews, and participate in Configuration Management input.
- Perform relevant system functions and tooling management tasks.
- Monitor supplier quality performance data and collaborate with relevant teams to develop and implement strategies for supplier performance improvement.
- Use root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies to address supplier quality issues.
- Participate in the supplier selection process, offering expertise in casting, brazing, and machining for qualification and evaluation.
- Coordinate with engineering teams on Concurrent Product and Process Development (CPPD), New Product Introduction (NPI), and Continuous Process Improvement (CPI).
- Participate in design and process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Lead the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and assist in developing the First Article Production Inspection Test Plan (FAPITP).
- Work with engineering teams to address Reject Notices (RNs) and Request for Technical Authorization (RTAs).
- Bachelor's Degree in a technical subject or 3-5+ years of relevant experience; or 10 years of manufacturing experience in lieu of a degree.
- Strong understanding of engineering practices, including drawing interpretation, tooling concepts, NDT, and functional testing.
- High ethical standards and professionalism.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to use statistical and problem-solving tools, including root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, especially in dealing with sensitive issues, developing others, and building consensus both internally and externally.
- Familiarity with 6 Sigma methodology and completion of 6 Sigma training.
- Experience with project management and Design of Experiment (DOE).
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles as applied in manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with quality management principles.
- Project Management experience.
- Familiarity with Investment Castings, Sand Castings, and relevant machining processes is a plus.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as turning and milling, as well as shop operations and maintenance procedures.
