Job Summary: The competency-based apprenticeship will measure the apprentice’s successful demonstration of acquired skills and knowledge, as verified by the program sponsor. Requirements include apprentices complete an on-the-job training component and complete a related technical instruction component as outlined within the approved Standards of the Apprenticeship. The apprentice will assist the security team with identifying and reporting of all security issues by prioritizing threats and confirming threats that have been mitigated in accordance with company stands. The apprentice will assist the Chief Information Security Officer and the Information Security Team Lead in processing documentation, facilitation, remediation planning, risk management, and systems implementation coordination to meet the audit, control, and compliance requirements. Additionally, they will be training others on security best practices and assisting with code reviews.

Viable candidates must be willing to work onsite at GSI's headquarters in Palm Harbor, Florida daily.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop plans to safeguard computer files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure and to meet emergency data processing needs
  • Monitor current reports of computer viruses to determine when to update virus protection systems
  • Encrypt data transmissions and erect firewalls to conceal confidential information as it is being transmitted and to keep out tainted digital transfers
  • Perform risk assessments and execute tests of the data processing system to ensure the functioning of data processing activities and security measures
  • Modify computer security files to incorporate new software, correct errors, or change individual access status
  • Review violations of computer security procedures and discuss procedures with violators to ensure violations are not repeated
  • Document computer security and emergency measures policies, procedures, and tests
  • Confer with users to discuss issues such as computer data access needs, security violations, and programming changes
  • Monitor the use of data files and regulate access to safeguard information in computer files
  • Coordinate implementation of computer system plan with establishment personnel and outside vendors
  • Train users and promote security awareness to ensure system security and improve server and network efficiency

Requirements

Work Experience / Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Industry standards, e.g., ISO 17799/27001, FISMA/FedRAMP, NIST Publications, and other Industry Related Security Standards
  • Knowledge of one of more of the following Database Environments: Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, DB2, and MySQL
  • Knowledge of agile and waterfall software development lifecycle methodologies
  • Hands-on working experience with Windows Server 2012/2019
  • Experience in TCP/IP Networking

Qualifications / Certifications

  • Minimum high school graduate; General Education Development (GED)
  • Two-year college degree in cyber security preferred

  • Willing to accept various projects and tasks as needed
