Primary Purpose

The Brand & Creative Manager is responsible for managing the creation of authentic and inspiring visual content that supports Sempra's strategic communication goals. This role oversees the development and implementation of brand standards, manages creative assets, and leads the design and production of a wide variety of marketing and communications materials.

They collaborate with internal teams and external partners to drive cohesive brand storytelling and impactful visual solutions. With a strong blend of strategic thinking and creative expertise, this role plays a key part in shaping and protecting the company's brand identity.

Duties And Responsibilities

Brand Management

  • Leads brand strategy initiatives and ensures brand alignment across all visual and creative applications.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for creative brand direction, guiding internal teams and vendors on maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Partners with the Marketing Manager to ensure campaign materials and content strategies align with the corporate brand.
  • Educates internal teams and vendors on brand standards, tools, and best practices, emphasizing quality and consistency across all applications.
  • Oversees brand asset management, including trademark protection, creative libraries, and brand governance across all Sempra companies.
  • Collaborates with teams across the organization to ensure alignment.


Art Direction

  • Directs the creation of high-end visuals that elevate corporate reputation objectives, including presentations, ads, videos, websites, reports, events, and templates.
  • Proposes, and evaluates proposed, creative concepts for brand cohesion and strategic alignment.
  • Leads visual storytelling initiatives that enhance corporate identity and engagement.
  • Oversees creative development for annual corporate reporting, communications initiatives, social media, and marketing campaigns.


Project Management

  • Leads the planning, coordination, and execution of creative projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, on budget, and at the highest quality.
  • Develops project timelines, establishes milestones, and manages workflow across internal teams and external vendors.
  • Uses project management tools to track progress, manage approvals, and provide clear visibility to stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, designers, developers, content creators, and agencies to align creative deliverables with broader business objectives.
  • Identifies and mitigates potential risks, proactively solving issues to keep projects on track.


Creative Production & Execution

  • Ensures consistency and quality in photography, videography, and multimedia production to enhance storytelling efforts.
  • Provides hands-on design and technical production support when needed for corporate communications, digital assets, and print materials.
  • Oversees creative staff to ensure all creative materials align with brand standards and quality expectations.
  • Supports creative writing and copy-editing efforts to ensure alignment with brand voice and messaging.
  • Manages vendor relationships, including agencies, photographers, video producers, and printers, to maintain high standards of execution.
  • Manages vendor contracts and processes invoices.
  • Plans and manages budgets.


Supervisory duties

  • Directly supervises creative staff and provides mentorship on creative best practices.
  • Oversees external creative vendors/agencies to ensure quality control and brand consistency.
  • Supports career development of creative resources within the team.


Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, marketing, brand management, or a related field is required. Must include formal training in brand strategy, visual design concepts, or design leadership.


Experience

  • 8+ years demonstrated experience leading brand and creative programs in an agency or corporate setting. is required.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
  • We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.


Skills And Abilities

Required skills and abilities:

  • Strong proficiency in design principles, user experiences, typography, layout and composition.
  • Production experience in a variety of media, including print, photography, video and digital experiences.
  • Must possess a strong sense of concept development and brand awareness.
  • Able to think critically and deliver creative solutions to complex issues.
  • Able to integrate messaging and visuals to deliver unified theme.
  • Able to develop tools and templates that adhere to brand guidelines, and act as an advisor to internal clients and external vendors.
  • Project management experience on complex visual communication projects.
  • Able to take direction and work independently, but also able to collaborate with a team.
  • Able to oversee projects from concept to completion, adapt quickly to changing schedules and priorities and complete projects under pressure in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Sound judgment, creativity and resourcefulness.
  • Extensive experience working in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Extensive experience in Microsoft Office Suite (especially PowerPoint, Word, Excel).


Preferred Skills And Abilities

  • Must be comfortable building relationships with internal stakeholders, including those at the senior executive level. Experience interfacing with senior executives.
  • Ability to work in a large, complex organization. Corporate experience desirable.
  • Familiarity with design tools like Figma or Canva.
  • Experienced working in Mac and PC environments.
  • Experience working with content management tools.
  • Experience working with project management tools.
  • Experience supervising others.
