Purpose
The Freight Specialist will be responsible for coordinating inbound ingredient freight on raw material purchasing for Barrett Petfood, including but not limited to; proteins, grains, minerals, palatant, oils, etc. This role will also coordinate and dispatch 5 internal drivers with a mix of ingredients, equipment and finished goods.

- Utilize dock scheduling software (OpenDock) to organize inbound loads.
- Work closely with purchasing coordinator to organize freight against PO’s
- Oversee and manage internal freight, interfacility shipments, and finished goods from facilities to distribution centers.
- Negotiate rates with freight carriers and monitor transportation costs
- Track freight pricing with accounting.
- Work closely with inbound drivers to execute delivery of ingredients. Field phone calls, emails, etc.
- Coordinate with warehouse and distribution center managers for finished items transfers.
- Closely work with purchasing coordinator for inbound ingredient schedule and what items will need freight arranged.
- Ensure that all shipments meet food safety standards and comply with industry regulations (e.g., FDA, USDA)
- Assist in developing and implementing strategies to improve efficiency and reduce transportation costs
- Reporting logistics KPI weekly
- Strong Microsoft Office experience
- Familiarity with inventor software
- 1-2 years logistics experience desired
- Working experience with dock and freight scheduling software
