Employment Status: Part-Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Schedule: Monday - Friday 9 am - 12 pm/ 15 hours per week

Reports to: Parish Operations Director

Summary

The Assistant Bookkeeper fulfills the mission of the parish by ensuring effective and efficient administration of bookkeeping, accounting, and HR functions.

Essential Functions

Assist the Bookkeeper in daily tasks

  • Provides Bookkeeping assistance and Payroll support for the parish.
  • Writes checks and maintains parish checking account; reconciles auxiliary organization account with their bank statements, such as CYO, Altar Society, Guadalupana's, Mission Group, Men's Club, and Respect Life. .
  • Maintains accounts payable and financial records pertaining to individual vendors.
  • Acquiring proper information to set up vendors (Certificate of Insurance, TIN, and when necessary their W9)
  • Maintains accounting records; posts receipts and expenditures to proper accounts.
  • Responds to inquiries concerning account matters and provides records, information, and explanations.
  • Preparation: Reconciliation of monthly auxiliary organization financial reports such as CYO, Altar Society, Guadalupana's, Mission Group, Men's Club, and Respect Life.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous accounting/bookkeeping experience.
  • Knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Previous experience with accounts payable , accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and bank/benefit reconciliations.
  • Proven experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks or other similar software.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Physical Demands

  • Office job at parish
  • Operates a computer and other office machinery such as copy machine, fax/printer.
  • Occasional lifting 10-20 pounds.
  • Physical use of telephone.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) Preferred but not required
  • Experience with Parish accounting and payroll systems
