Sr. Solaris Administrator (Proc*C, and Shell Scripting)

Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Senior Solaris Administrator to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge of Solaris operating systems, along with a strong proficiency in Autosys, Proc*C, and Shell Scripting. You will play a critical role in maintaining and optimizing Solaris environments, performing system upgrades, and developing automation scripts to improve operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer, maintain, and optimize Solaris servers in a large-scale enterprise environment.
- Perform Solaris OS upgrades and patches, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum system performance.
- Design, develop, and maintain automation scripts using Shell Scripting to automate routine tasks and improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the smooth integration of Solaris systems with other enterprise applications and infrastructure.
- Perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot complex system issues to ensure optimal system availability and performance.
- Manage and configure Autosys jobs to automate and streamline business-critical workflows.
- Develop and maintain Proc*C procedures for database integration with Solaris servers.
- Perform system monitoring and take proactive measures to prevent downtime and ensure high availability.
- Provide third-level support for escalated incidents and work on capacity planning and disaster recovery exercises.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for all Solaris environments, processes, and procedures.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Mandatory:
- Hands-on experience with Solaris administration (Solaris 10/11).
- Strong proficiency in Shell Scripting (Bash, Korn, or other shells) to automate tasks.
- Proc*C programming experience (must be familiar with creating and maintaining Proc*C programs for database integration).
- Experience with Autosys for job scheduling and automation.
- Extensive experience in performing Solaris upgrades, patching, and system optimizations.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with a deep understanding of system performance tuning, monitoring, and diagnostics.
- Familiarity with hardware and virtualized Solaris environments.
- Excellent documentation skills for maintaining standard operating procedures and knowledge bases.
- Preferred:
- Exposure to Solaris Zones and virtualized environments.
- Experience with NFS, SMF (Service Management Facility), and ZFS.
- Knowledge of LDAP, DNS, and other networking protocols in Solaris environments.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Solaris SMF, or equivalent.
Education & Certifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Solaris-related certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Solaris Administrator) are a plus.
