Position Summary

The Project Engineer will provide technical and engineering support throughout the can line design, build, and installation process. This role involves hands-on work with equipment audits, process design, and project execution to ensure seamless integration and operational efficiency.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Work independently on technical assignments, including can and tooling design, equipment audits, equipment specifications, and commissioning.
  • Prepare and complete detailed pre-delivery inspection (PDI) reports and job site progress reports in accordance with company standards.
  • Assist in the development of comprehensive training programs for can plant production and support equipment.
  • Provide direction and technical support to Operational Services, Business Development, Project Management, and Engineering teams.
  • Review manufacturing process layouts to identify potential bottlenecks and provide feedback to Engineering.
  • Lead OEMs supporting customer plant commissioning, start-up activities, and ongoing operations management.
  • Supervise on-site commissioning, functional checkouts, and start-ups, including training and performance validation.
  • Conduct audits of existing manufacturing plants and generate reports with recommendations following company formats.
  • Assist in estimating man-hours, capital expenditures, and construction costs for operational tasks and project proposals.
  • Travel domestically and internationally (30-60% per year), including up to four (4) weeks on-site during commissioning and start-up.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with employees across all company locations.
  • Adhere to company safety protocols and procedures.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in an office and uncontrolled environments. Exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather conditions may occur for short durations.
  • Employees must follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment in designated areas.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Must maintain a high level of alertness and work safely.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Maintenance, or Packaging Engineering, or relevant industrial experience required.
  • 1-3 years of operational or maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machinery and production process issues.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting preferred.
  • Understanding of compressed air, vacuum, cooling water, conveyor control, and other manufacturing support systems preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles; understanding of hydraulic systems and schematics is a plus.
  • Ability to present complex manufacturing concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively learn and apply new knowledge and skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong time management and adaptability skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
