Reporting to the Corporate Development Manager, the role is responsible for:
- Providing economic analysis of renewable energy, primarily through building and maintaining financial models;
- Liaising with internal and external subject matter experts responsible for key financial model inputs;
- Supporting diligence activities related to development and potential acquisitions;
- Supporting commercial objectives for securing offtake agreements for the BluEarth development portfolio;
- Support the team and corporate reporting, including regular updates and shareholder reporting;
- Upholding BluEarth’s Environmental, Health, & Safety policies, practices, and programs; and
- Upholding the company’s core values.
- Support all areas of transactional business development from research, opportunity identification, economic modeling, due diligence and closing;
- Passion for economic modeling and detailed commercial analysis (i.e. Excel capable);
- Continuous learning and growth such that role develops over time to include greater independence in all key functions above;
- Development of relationships both internally and externally; and
- Work collaboratively with other BluEarth groups to uphold and demonstrate the company’s values.
- University degree, preferably in Management, Business, or Finance or Engineering, but consideration will be given to those that possess tangible and proven experience and skills; and
- Credentials (existing or in progress) such as CA, CPA, CFA, and MBA are required.
- Minimum 4 years’ of professional experience in engineering, accounting, or finance, including a minimum of 2 years’ direct experience in financial modeling;
- Professional experience in investment banking, private equity, corporate development, or other transaction focused career verticals are considered an asset;
- Demonstrated experience in complex financial modeling and advanced Excel capabilities;
- Demonstrated experience in written and oral reporting, including the ability to summarize and synthesize complex concepts; and
- Experience in renewable energy or power and utilities is not required but is preferred.
- High proficiency in Excel;
- In depth understanding of how to build, interpret and summarize project economic models;
- Understanding of infrastructure / renewable financing terms and structures;
- Detail-oriented and willingness to go ‘the extra mile’;
- Ability to coordinate with internal and external subject matters efficiently;
- Excellent time management skills and demonstrated ability to work on multiple concurrent projects;
- Highly flexible and able to quickly adapt to changing priorities;
- Strong communications skills, both oral and written;
- Strong Finance and Accounting knowledge;
- Strong work ethic and high integrity;
- Ability to work with minimal supervision;
- Professional, respectful, and charismatic; and
- Exercises independent judgement and discretion in performing tasks.
- Able to commit to a flexible work schedule that often involves time outside of typical business hours; and
- Ability to travel within Canada and the United States.
