Role Overview
Carver Companies is hiring its first Staff Counsel, reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer. This role is designed for a junior attorney (1-2 years of experience) looking to make their first move in-house and develop into a key legal team member. The position will provide exposure to corporate, commercial, real estate, and commercial litigation matters across multiple business units.
Key Responsibilities
- Corporate & Commercial: Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, including supplier, customer, and vendor agreements.
- Real Estate: Support the company’s real estate transactions, including leases, purchases, and easements.
- Commercial Litigation: Manage and coordinate outside counsel in active litigation, while also handling pre-litigation disputes and risk mitigation strategies.
- Regulatory & Compliance: Assist in ensuring corporate compliance with industry regulations, licensing, and operational requirements.
- Internal Advisory: Provide day-to-day legal support to business teams on various legal matters, helping to align legal solutions with operational needs.
- Process Improvement: Support the development of legal policies, templates, and internal procedures to streamline legal operations.
- J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in New York (or eligibility to waive in).
- 1-2 years of legal experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
- Exposure to corporate, commercial, real estate, or litigation matters preferred.
- Strong legal research, drafting, and negotiation skills.
- Practical, business-minded approach with the ability to balance legal risks with commercial objectives.
- Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and is eager to learn.
