Position Summary

The Structural Quality Inspector plays a key role in the organization providing shop floor quality control oversight of CLT panels, post machining, finishing, and packaging operations. The Structural Quality Inspector will work directly with the CNC Lead and Structural Operations Manager to help ensure that part drawings (dimensional) and finished product attributes are translated effectively, and successfully executed to our specifications on the shop floor.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the CLT Department inspectors (primary panel manufacture) in qualifying panels during the manufacture of the Structural product. (Dimensions, panel squareness, and visual attributes)
  • Performs pre-machining panel inspections (working with the Machining team) to identify panels best suited for machining.
  • Performs primary inspection of all Structural panels throughout the secondary value-add operations:
    • Machining: part dimensional checks to the part drawings and visual quality attributes.
    • Finishing: per part drawings and visual quality attributes.
    • Packaging: visual attributes
  • Notifies Machining team immediately when panel is out of tolerance and confirms quality when rework is completed.
  • Affix tags (OK, Reject/Rework, etc.) to provide floor visual of inspection status of a panel.
  • Assist Operations Manager with development, implementation, and continuous improvement of shop floor visuals.
  • Adjust work cadence to support smooth workflow within the department. (Avoids bottlenecks waiting for inspections to be completed).
  • Support Operations Manager with maintaining adherence to proper production sequencing per the plan.
  • Print and distribute "Final” Shop floor drawing packet (prior to start of machining) including part drawings, router tags, plan view drawing, part labels and package labels
  • Oversee any changes to "Final” drawings by collect and re-distributing all drawings previously distributed and affected by the change(s)
  • Monitor status of drawings, panelization plans, and change-orders.
  • Assist Operations Manager with documenting machining times, finishing times, secondary fabrications times.
  • Participates in all other projects as requested by management.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-4 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or construction environment.
  • Mass Timber knowledge and/or experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional tolerances and basic metrology.
  • Strong proficiency with measuring devices including tape measure and calipers.
  • Understanding of 2D and 3D part drawings.
  • Ability to convert between decimals and fractions.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Team player and attitude of strong support of production workers and partners.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
  • Project management skills
