Job Description:

The Data Governance Lead will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing enterprise-wide data governance frameworks, focusing on data quality, compliance, master data management(MDM) and metadata management. You will leverage your experience with Microsoft Purview to ensure data governance practices are aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements. This role requires a combination of leadership, technical expertise, and communication skills.

Must have: Microsoft Purview, data privacy regulations, metadata management, data catalogs, data lineage, and data classification.

Good to have: Knowledge of Azure Cloud, Azure Synapse, Databricks, and Snowflake

Key Responsibilities:

  • 4+ years of IT experience, including a minimum of 2 years as a Data Governance Lead.
  • Lead the design and implementation of data governance frameworks, policies, and processes across client organizations.
  • Utilize Microsoft Purview to manage and enhance data governance, including data cataloging, classification, lineage, and data lifecycle management.
  • Develop and enforce data standards, policies, and practices to ensure data accuracy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with data stewards, data owners, and business stakeholders to establish data governance roles, responsibilities, and data stewardship processes.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to clients for improving data governance maturity and driving data-driven decision-making.
  • Monitor and report on data governance metrics, compliance status, and data quality improvements.
  • Conduct data governance assessments and audits to ensure adherence to policies and identify areas for improvement.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes that impact data governance.
  • Design and implement Microsoft Information Protection solutions, including labeling policies, DLP rules, and encryption for sensitive data.

Experience:

  • Experience in a consulting environment is a plus, with demonstrated success in client-facing roles.
  • Extensive experience in data governance, data management, or data strategy roles.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Purview, including hands-on expertise in implementing data governance and compliance frameworks using the platform.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Information Protection and strong knowledge of sensitivity labels, Data Loss Prevention (DLP).
  • Understanding of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA) and industry standards for data governance.
  • Experience working with metadata management, data catalogs, data lineage, and data classification.
  • Excellent leadership, project management, and organizational skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts into business value for clients.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with cloud tools beyond Microsoft Purview, such as, Azure Synapse, Databricks, and Snowflake
  • Experience in data governance maturity assessments and frameworks like DAMA DMBOK.
  • Data Governance and Data Management certifications (e.g., DGSP, CDMP) are a plus.

Certifications:

  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., SC-400: Microsoft Information Protection Administrator) are a big plus.
  • Any Data Governance tools experience is plus.
