Part-Time House Monitor
Position Summary
SMYAL is hiring a House Monitor for our housing program for youth ages 18-24 who are experiencing homelessness. The House Monitor position works to ensure that all LGBTQ youth who are residents of the SMYAL Youth Houses are safe, supported, monitored and cared for respectfully. This position works with the Case Managers, House Monitors, and the Director of Youth Housing to implement tasks, directives, and interventions to assist residents in meeting their case plan goals. The role is essential to ensuring that both residents and SMYAL employees adhere to the program, including the housing rules, policies and regulations. The House Monitor is responsible for monitoring the safety and conduct of house residents, providing administrative and logistics support, and providing clinical and crisis intervention as needed. House Monitors must be able to manage youth ages 18-24, de-escalate any potential conflicts, and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
SMYAL's transitional living program is an 18-24 month program that seeks to provide its residents with independent living skills and stable permanent housing in the community. This position requires weekday and occasional weekend hours, and at times may require work beyond regular office hours or covering shifts for other members of the Housing Monitor team. Holidays are mandatory. Teamwork is highly emphasized

Position Responsibilities
- Coordinate the operation of the facility, including adherence to house rules and regulations
- Make regular house check inspections inside the building and in the area immediately outside, and check individual rooms when necessary
- Monitors building and facility conditions following agency guidelines for maintenance
- Works with case manager to develop and monitor individual case plans for residents to provide optimum supportive services
- Monitors camera system for building security
- Counsels residents and coordinates subsequent services as needed
- Provides crisis intervention and support as needed
- Makes entries into the Daily Log detailing activities during employee's tour of duty
- Perform other duties as assigned, understanding the changing environment working with youth in a housing environment
- All other relevant duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Competency in basic community engagement, medical, social, and practical case management.
- Experience working directly with LGBTQ young adults preferred.
- Experience in Group Home living or Shelter facility preferred.
- Knowledge of mental health concerns and suicidality.
- Must be sensitive to issues of diversity, including race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity, both in the workplace and in the community served.
- A valid driver's license is desirable.
- LGBTQ individuals and people of color are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Must be able to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed.
