Position/Job Summary

Directs and manages all plant/production personnel, operations, and activities within the Fort Collins facility with overall responsibility for production, quality of product submitted to QC, parts finishing and assembly, maintenance, shipping, and other production related activities.

Position Specific

  • Coordinates plant activities to ensure total manufacturing objectives, specifically sales, production, and on-time delivery goals, are accomplished in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • In concert with Project Management, Quality, and other Departments as necessary, and utilizing backlog, dispatch lists, and other tools, reviews and assigns all jobs, coordinates production, and ensures timely job completion in line with customer due/ship dates (on-time delivery).
  • Maintains even workflow across the entire plant/production floor and interaction with personnel and Project Management to ensure Company manufacturing goals and objectives are met.
  • Develops and maintains improvements to current machine and personnel utilization to enhance and/or increase production.
  • Develops personnel and workflow that will work toward a sixty-five percent plus (65%+) uptime on machine utilization.
  • Develops second shift to a higher level of performance through hiring, Employee skill level development, and scheduling for success.
  • Develops and maintains workflow that will allow second shift to run the Integrex cell continuously, productively, and to customer schedules.
  • Reviews Production Floor Travelers for improvements, efficiency, inaccuracy, cycle time, combining and/or elimination of operations, changes, or corrections and coordinates updates as necessary.
  • Controls and minimizes labor, overtime, premium freight, and repair expenses.
  • Develops and manages tracking systems for analyzing production rates and machine up-time.
  • Ensures appropriate production rate to reduce delivery delays; identifies bottlenecks or delays in production prior to occurrence; ensures necessary labor, materials, and other resources are available to relieve production bottlenecks and delays.
  • Establishes workflow policies that enhance speed and efficiency without compromising product safety or integrity.
  • Responsible for supervision of production personnel, to include, but not limited to:
  • Reviewing each job with personnel before set-up is started as to tooling, fixtures, set-up time, cycle time, in-process inspection, parts finishing and assembly, etc.
  • Assisting in job set-up and other functions, including trouble shooting.
  • Assisting with technical questions/issues.
  • Assisting personnel with first part inspection before submitting parts to Quality.
  • Completion of all customer required inspection documentation by personnel.
  • Signs off on all Traveler revisions, including Quantity changes.
  • Ensures personnel remain productive throughout shift.
  • Ensures second shift production requirements and expectations are properly conveyed to personnel and shift management on a daily basis.
  • In concert with Corporate Services/Human Resources:
  • Provides personnel direction, development, leadership, and training to accomplish goals and objectives in manufacturing related areas.
  • Oversees personnel performance (monitoring and reviewing performance and organizing interventions for improvement), discipline, and evaluation; makes recommendations regarding wage adjustments.
  • Reviews Labor in the manner prescribed by Payroll procedures and ensures Employee corrections are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Approves time off taking into account production schedules and personnel resource needs.
  • Contributes to the hiring process, making recommendations as to which candidates are most capable and able to assimilate into and be productive in the work environment.
  • Understands and has elevated awareness of all Company policies and procedures and enforces same; maintains communication between management and personnel to ensure that all policies and procedures are understood and followed.
  • In concert with Quality:
  • Implements and maintains preventative maintenance programs; supervises maintenance.
  • Monitors production floor for correct procedures related to Quality control and any necessary preventative actions.
  • Assists with corrective actions.
  • Maintains existing plant facility, machinery, and equipment, including:
  • Provides suggestions for adjustments to plant and machinery/equipment as necessary; participates in new machine purchase decisions. Where and when applicable, suggests new machine purchases that will enhance and/or increase production.
  • Manages and evaluates machine resources to ensure productivity and to avoid downtime; schedules maintenance and repair of machine resources, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Ensures production equipment complies with professional and safety standards.
  • Fulfills administrative duties; provides production information to Management and Project Managers, including suggestions for potential improvement, and works with personnel on strategies for implementing suggestions.
  • Enforces general housekeeping and machine area cleanliness.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Must have background with manufacturing methods, requirements, and planning, process improvement programs and procedures, within a CNC machine shop environment.
  • Must have at least 1+ years of experience machining and understand machining principles.
  • Must be able to teach machinists machining skills and techniques to ensure good parts.
  • Helpful to understand programming with Mastercam
  • Technical knowledge of parts, machinery, and machining processes.
  • High level blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
  • Independent thinking and excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of appropriate inspection techniques and GD&T.
  • Ability to help troubleshoot and solve the most technical shop problems.
  • Knowledge of raw materials.
  • Thorough understanding of Quality Systems.
  • Working knowledge of ERP Systems. (M2M/made to manager)
  • Strong supervisory, leadership and influencing, teamwork, conflict management, persuasiveness, and delegation skills. Ability to coach and mentor personnel one a one-on-one basis as well as within a group.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of management, supervisory, and aerospace experience within an AS9100 facility/plant, or a combination of education, management, supervisory, and related aerospace experience culminating in full knowledge of the practices, procedures, capabilities, and requirements of the equipment and personnel under his direction, but not less than four (4) years.
  • Must be U.S. person within the meaning of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) with ability to present acceptable, original documents to prove identity and authorization to work.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • No positions within the Company are approved as remote work positions.
  • Working conditions are normal for both the office and manufacturing environment.
  • Significant time is spent on the Plant floor. The noise level on the Plant floor can be loud.
  • Work will involve spending long hours sitting and standing.
  • While performing duties of this position, the Employee is frequently required to stand (for moderate to long periods of time), walk, use hands to finger/handle/feel objects, and reach with hands and arms. Other frequent activities include, but are not limited to, push/pull of objects, bending, climbing, balancing, stooping, and twisting (torso).
  • Work may involve lifting of materials and product up to 50 pounds.
