Primary Responsibilities

  • Schedule outpatient diagnostic tests and referrals as ordered.
  • Knowledge of insurance carrier requirements.
  • Organize/Provide necessary information to obtain necessary authorizations or precertification from insurance carriers.
  • Notify patients of scheduled appointments and document their acknowledgment.
  • Counsel patients regarding special preparation for procedures and answer questions.
  • Contact insurance payers daily: Medicare, BlueCross BlueShield, and others.
  • Review claim denials and appeal when justified.
  • Verify the accuracy of coding.
  • Compile and prepare reports.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED

Experience

One year of general clerical experience, preferably in a medical office setting. Word processing and computer experience. Familiarity with local insurance policies and their referral requirements.
