CLASS TITLE: DISPATCHER
BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Manager of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation, perform dispatching and clerical support duties; assist in the scheduling and dispatch regular and special education bus drivers; coordinate the assignment of regularly scheduled routes, special events and field trips; drive a school bus as needed.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Operate two-way radio to receive and transmit information to drivers; assure timely transportation service to and from District schools, special events and field trips. E
Communicate with department employees, dispatching to needed locations to respond to routine requests or emergency situations. E
Communicate with parents, supervisors, school administrators and department employees; receive requests, questions, concerns and suggestions and provide routine information and assistance or route to appropriate personnel; notify parents of changes in schedules as appropriate. E
Research maps and locations to provide bus drivers with information and directions to various destinations; maintain current knowledge of routes and locations to assure timely services and accurate information. E
Receive calls regarding emergencies, road conditions, road hazards, accidents and other concerns; notify drivers or authorities as appropriate; revise routes for drivers as needed. E
Drive a school bus to cover routes as needed; inspect and fuel buses according to established procedures. E
Maintain assigned files and records; receive and process a variety of information according to established guidelines and procedures. E
Operate a computer and other standard office machines. E
Perform related duties as assigned.
