The Practice Assistant provides administrative and legal support to attorneys in the Bankruptcy and Litigation practice areas. Key responsibilities include drafting and proofreading legal documents, managing case-specific deadlines, coordinating court filings, and maintaining client files. This role is critical in ensuring smooth case management and supporting the attorneys in delivering high-quality legal services. Key Responsibilities:

  • Type, proofread, format, and edit legal documents, correspondence, and memoranda under time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Assist in drafting documents as needed.
  • Open new client and matter files using the firm's software.
  • Calendar case-specific deadlines and coordinate hearings, depositions, and mediations.
  • Prepare documents for filing in State and Federal courts.
  • Coordinate with billing or collections coordinators for invoice preparation and mailing.
  • Maintain email and electronic files using firm-specific document management software.
  • Schedule appointments, arrange travel, and set up conference calls and video meetings.
  • Prepare and submit expense and reimbursement reports.
  • Improve efficiencies by learning and utilizing practice-specific and firm-wide software applications.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and professionals firm-wide to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Liaise with document services for all document production needs.
  • Stay informed about practice-specific laws, rules, and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, court personnel, and opposing counsel as directed.
  • Conduct basic research and analysis as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a legal assistant in a law firm or comparable environment.
  • Knowledge of bankruptcy procedures strongly preferred; litigation experience is a plus.

Special Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Experience with document management systems such as NetDocs is a plus.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for professional interactions with clients, attorneys, and staff.
  • Ability to problem-solve and anticipate potential issues.
  • Willingness to learn and work in additional practice areas as needed.
