Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced OT Security consultant to conduct comprehensive security maturity assessments of electrical utility substations. The candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in critical infrastructure protection, specifically within electric utilities, and a deep understanding of industrial control systems (ICS) security frameworks and compliance requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed security maturity assessments of electrical utility substations and associated OT infrastructure
- Evaluate existing security controls against industry frameworks and compliance requirements
- Develop comprehensive assessment reports with actionable recommendations
- Identify gaps in current security posture and propose risk-based remediation strategies
- Review and assess OT network architecture, segmentation, and security controls
- Evaluate SCADA systems, control center technologies, and smart grid components
- Assess integration of new technologies including DERMS, microgrids, and grid modernization initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in OT/ICS security within electric utility environments
- Demonstrated experience conducting security assessments of electrical substations
- Deep knowledge of NERC-CIP requirements and compliance frameworks
- Extensive experience with SCADA systems, ADMS, and control center technologies
- Strong understanding of smart grid technologies including AMI, DERMS, and microgrids
- Proven experience with OT security tools for asset enumeration and anomaly detection
- Current NERC certification
- Experience with MITRE ATT&CK framework for ICS
- Strong understanding of IEC 62443 standards
- Demonstrated knowledge of NIST 800-82 and NIST Cybersecurity Framework
- Experience with risk-based assessment methodologies
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with grid modernization and decarbonization initiatives
- Background in OT SOC design and operations
- Familiarity with advanced grid technologies
- Experience working with utility regulators and standards organizations
- Knowledge of emerging integration challenges and security implications
- Experience with Vehicle Grid Integration (VGI) security
- Additional certifications in relevant areas (CISSP, GICSP, etc.)
Required Skills
- Strong technical writing and communication abilities
- Experience preparing detailed assessment reports and remediation roadmaps
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to varied audiences
- Project management and stakeholder coordination experience
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Understanding of both IT and OT security principles and their convergence.
