Briefly describe the position responsibilities: This position manages the logistics functions and is responsible for leading and coordinating the efforts required to transport and receive inventory to our warehouse and to customers. Their objective is to make these operations as productive as possible from the aspect of operational and cost efficiencies and adding value to DEMDACO and its customers. This individual will be the primary liaison to our transportation vendors, Customs Broker, US Customs and other Regulatory Agencies affiliated with transporting product both domestically and internationally.

Within the international logistics function there are 2 types of Logistical responsibilities that are performed in this position:

  • The Administrative Functions require data gathering, timely data entry and reporting so that data can be used for analyses and or performance and support of other functions and disciplines within DEMDACO.
  • The Management Functions utilize the data analysis and knowledge of transportation industry services to develop and execute overall logistics strategies for the company.

The Administrative Functions

  • Monitor theweekly CBM PO Requirements Report, by PO and Export Port; develop Booking strategies with Business Agents (China & India) to optimize Container capacities, and to ensure timely submission of Bookings to Ocean Vessel Partners or selected NVOCC companies
  • Update tracking information for merchandise in transit (containers) from booking submission at the origin to the delivery of goods at our warehouse, provide delivery details of container in upcoming weeks to support other functions like warehouse and sales.
  • Follow up with 3rd party freight forwarder to provide the required information to the trucking company for timely pickup of the container from rail yard and avoid payment of any holding charges.

The Management Functions

  • Support the integration between DEMDACO data base and vendors logistics systems (EDI).
  • Manage and monitor the real time in-transit container reporting system to ensure accuracy and identify problems for early resolution.
  • Track the volume forecasts to be shipped in coming weeks/month, review the available capacities as per the allocation under our contract & work with 3PL to secure additional container space when needed.
  • Work with internal partner (PD, Finance & Buying agents) to provide additional information as requested by our freight forwarder, CBP and any other government entity to ensure timely delivery of goods.
  • Be aware of impediments to normal delivery schedules based on the market situation and work with carriers to find alternative solutions in terms of port selections etc., to alleviate disruption in service.
  • Provide management and direction for various international shipments from ports other than Chinas and air shipments.
  • Primary liaison/first point of contact with all product transportation partners
  • Support the Manager in the negotiation of annual ocean carrier contracts, and Parcel Outbound Contracts, i.e. (Federal Express, UPS, etc.) and related renewals to achieve optimal costs and services levels.
  • Constantly monitors Ocean Vessel and Parcel Shipment Contracts for un-planned Surcharges, negotiates new cost, to control and optimize spend for Demdaco.
  • Coordinates and manages all US Domestic TL / LTL inbound transportations requirements, solicits quotes, to ensure optimal pricing and transit times.

Other Related Tasks

  • Support the Manager in collecting & submitting the required information for Annual Customs duty reconciliation with, select third party NVOCC.
  • Monitor Global Logistic Alerts, from US Gov., NVOCC Partners, and Logistic Journals and Magazines, to adjust Demdaco Logistic strategies as required, i.e. (US West & East Coast Labor Agreements, International & US Port congestions, Rail Car Shortages, etc.)
  • Assist the SCM / Quality Group in filing Duty Draw Back forms for recovery of Taxes and Tariffs, on selected SKUs.
  • Assist the SCM / Quality Group in gathering data and related documents for filing Cargo Claims as required.
  • Manage and Negotiate all Freight Forwarder / Logistic requirements for Bi-Annual Sample Cycle shipments, coordinate logistic strategies, with Purchasing, Creative Services, and National Accounts.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required

Education/Experience

  • Bachelors degree from college or university preferred.
  • AA Degree in Logistics & Transportation with three to five years work experience in international logistics.

Computer Skills

Competent in entire MS Office suite and specifically, Teams, Outlook, Excel & Word, should have mid to an expert level expertise work in Excel. Ability to understand and utilize Logistic Partner Web Platforms to enhance internal and external logistic reporting and strategies, and to assist in meeting all Customer Service targets.

Supervisory Responsibilities

As assigned, no regular scheduled supervisory responsibility

Work Environment

Mainly office some travel may be required on occasion
