Job Summary/Objective:
Large wire & cable manufacturer is hiring an Applications Engineer with in-depth experience in substation control and underground and overhead secondary and medium voltage primary utility cable markets to further enhance the company's portfolio in the application, field support, business development, and service innovation of wire & cable products.
Applications Engineering plays a critical role in servicing the high volume of residential and commercial customers and the rapid growth of industrial, OEM, and utility end users in North America and internationally. The CableTechSupportTM Services was established with the mission statement of Re3TM; to Respond, Rectify, and Restore the electrical systems using Reinforced, Resilient, and Reliable Solutions. This large engineering team provides the industry's best-in-class consultation and technical support.
The responsibilities include aligning engineering activities with company objectives, driving the spec in the utility and datacenter market segments. This experienced individual will interface directly with diverse customers, drive brainstorming sessions, lead troubleshooting efforts, while partnering with agents, distributors, inside & outside sales, operation, and product management to deliver technical support to standards engineers, US and Canadian utility owners, EPCs, electricians, contractors, and retail/DIY users.
Key Responsibilities
1. Utilize application knowledge of wire & cable products to interpret the latest industry codes & standards, including NEC/NFPA, NEMA, UL, IEEE, CSA, ICEA, AEIC, NESC, ASTM and IEC to support customers.
2. Develop and deliver engineering presentations and in-depth product or service training seminars to maintain existing market shares or grow new opportunities via direct sales, electrical distribution channel sales, or contract business.
3. Prepare formal technical documents to educate customers and to assist end users on the cable designs, ratings, electrical parameters, installation methods, and application do and don'ts.
4. Market CableTechSupportTM Services' by generating CableTechTalks customer training videos, authoring Re3TM engineering whitepapers, publishing magazine articles, hosting live webinars, and serving as keynote speakers at trade shows and conferences.
5. Aid in identifying jobsite challenges, anticipate customer needs, solve project obstacles and create tailored products & solutions to meet the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)'s requirements, certifications or compliances, product functionalities, long-term exposures, and advanced property vs. performance for demanding operations including but not limited to hazardous locations, power plants, substations, and mega data centers.
6. Coordinate and execute technical requests for RFI/RFQ, bid proposals and project information to gain customer approvals.
7. Perform hands-on demonstrations using tools with cable accessories including connector, splices, terminations, cable pulling equipment, field testing equipment, diagnostic methods, inspections, and failure analysis.
8. Aid in conducting cable sizing or ampacity calculations based on NEC, ICEA, IEC, IEEE, or other thermal methods.
9. Coordinate the review of complex electrical wiring designs in AC or DC, including accessories and connectivity with the overall system, to provide the best-in-class installation procedures, innovative hands-on solutions, and field testing.
10. Ability to travel to technical conferences, job sites, and plant locations as needed (up to 40% travel).
Education, Experience, and Skills
Required
Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's
Specialized Degree: Engineering
Years of Experience: 5+
Field of Expertise: Application support and/or product engineering experience in the Wire and Cable, Power, Utility, Manufacturing, or Electrical Industry is required. 5+ years of knowledge in industry standards
Preferred
Minimum Education Level: Master's
Specialized Degree: Engineering
Years of Experience: 10+
Preferred Field of Expertise: Research and development, application support and/or product engineering experience in the Wire and Cable, Power, Utility, Manufacturing, or Electrical Industry is required. Hands-on experience with cable installation, splice & terminations, and connectors is a must. Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with large multi-functional departments internally and externally. Bilingual abilities are a plus (Spanish, Portuguese, or other languages). 7+ years of knowledge in industry standards
Other Preferred Skills, Licenses, & Certificates: Master electrician and/or certified cable splicer
