Position Summary:
The Application Administrator is principally responsible for managing and improving the overall performance of the university's enterprise systems. The work of the position is wide-ranging and includes the development of application management strategies, database management strategies, improvement of application and database performance and capacity, and planning for future releases for on premise applications and cloud. Working under the guidance of the Director, AMG, the Application Administrator is expected to exhibit a high-level of problem solving ability and resourcefulness and be competent to work independently on fairly complex applications, middleware and database with minimal supervision. The position regularly operates under deadlines and should be capable of handling multiple priorities. The position works collaboratively with technical staff within the University's Information Services and Technology Division, external product vendors, and functional representatives from university departments so that enterprise applications are optimized to meet the on-going business of the university.
Essential Functions:
- Strengthen enterprise systems by incorporating cloud strategies, integration strategies, new designs, architectures, standards and methods.
- Implement application performance management strategies, database strategies, monitoring strategies, and facilitate proactive planning to improve overall application performance and capacity.
- Lead the planning and deployment for future improvements for both on premise and cloud applications.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues and anomalies related to enterprise systems.
- Provide database-related technical support for application developers including creating tablespaces and related objects.
- Assist with the coordination and implementation of security measures.
- Assist with planning for backup and recovery of enterprise database information.
- Document procedures collaborating with technical and functional stakeholders.
- Provide after hours on-call support for critical issues.
- Leverage vendor sites and keep up to date with current technology trends.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and partners inside and outside the university, as needed.
- Perform all duties and maintain all standards in accordance with university policies, procedures and core values.
Additional Functions:
- Participate regularly in broader conversations within the Information Systems and Technology division to strengthen overall systems architecture.
- Mentor and guide less experienced functional and technical personnel.
- Assess and recommend new technology and solutions to the university.
- Assist faculty and researchers upon when requested with innovative technology projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field is required as well as 3-5 years progressive experience in applications, middleware, and database management.
Analytical, organizational, planning and technical skills as well as good oral and written communication skills are required.
Demonstrated and hands-on experience incorporating cloud solutions, ERP and analytics.
Working knowledge of the principles and practices of information technology and information management.
Preferred Qualifications:
The most successful candidate will have demonstrated working experience in a combination of any, and/or all of the following areas:
Oracle Database Administration and Administration of other Oracle technologies including OWB, PL/SQL, Application Server, Discoverer, Fusion Middleware.
Shell Scripting in Unix, Linux, Solaris.
Ellucian Banner ERP system, Ellucian's ODS/EDW, and Banner Document Management System.
Cognos Business Intelligence tools or similar tools like Microstrategy, Tabeleau.
Directory Service, Identity and Access Management knowledge desired.
Knowledge of integration platforms like MuleSoft or Workato.
SQL Server Database Admin and Windows OS.
Web technologies including Apache, Tomcat
