This is a systems programmer role. Mainframe application programmer profiles will not be considered.
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled ADABAS/IMS/CICS Systems Programmer/DBA to join our team. This role involves managing, maintaining, upgrading, and supporting various mainframe database systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.
Responsibilities:
Lead/support complex database upgrades, modifications, installations, testing, and enhancements.
Plan, install, configure, and manage core database products in alignment with the County s database architecture.
Provide technical consulting for application and operations teams in database administration.
Perform regular health checks, maintenance, and troubleshooting for production database systems.
Conduct evaluations for DBMS software selection and fine-tuning.
Design, develop, and manage logical and physical databases.
Develop and implement backup and recovery procedures.
Monitor and optimize database performance, space allocation, replication, and compression.
Required Skills:
Mainframe Database Administration: Experience managing hierarchical (IMS), relational (DB2), and file-based (ADABAS) databases.
Technical Proficiency: IBM Z/OS, IMS, DB2, ADABAS, SMP/E, JCL, IMS DB/DC, CICS, ACF2, ASSEMBLER/COBOL/REXX.
Tools & Technologies: IBM File Manager, DELTA/IMS, NATURAL/SUPERNAT, ENTIREX, CA SPOOL, IMS & DB2 BMC Tools, N20/TRIM.
Experience Required:
Minimum 7 years of experience as a Systems Programmer/DBA with at least 3 years in a lead role.
5 years of experience (within the last 8 years) in each of the following:
ADABAS/NATURAL systems programming.
IMS systems programming.
CICS systems programming.
IMS & ADABAS database administration.
Education:
Required: Bachelor's degree in IT-related or engineering field.
