Primary Purpose

The School Principal is responsible for providing effective leadership and administration of the elementary school, ensuring a safe, positive, and productive learning environment for students and staff. They are accountable for academic excellence, school safety, and the overall well-being of the school community.

Qualifications

  • PEL with Administrative Endorsement for Principal
  • Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience
  • Administrative experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an educational setting
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of current research and educational trends
  • Knowledge and application of research and evidence-based practices in education
  • Strong leadership, management, and supervisory skills
  • Strong organizational, communication, collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient technical skills with a strong understanding of how to use data

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  • Administer the school and its instructional program in all its facets
  • Exert leadership in the adaptation of the general program of education approved for the schools to meet the differentiated needs of the community served
  • Direct the activities of certified school professionals and non-certified staff members in the performance of their duties; responsible for the supervision and evaluation of certified and non-certified staff in respective building
  • Supervise the instructional staff in the development and implementation of curriculum and student activities
  • Report to appropriate central office administrative personnel regarding the needs of the school with respect to personnel, equipment, supplies, and curriculum
  • Coordinate the full range of extra-curricular activities including the supervision of these activities
  • Assume responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of students
  • Implement Board policies and administrative rules/regulations relating to the school
  • Prepare such reports as may be required
  • Work with various members of the central administrative staff on school problems such as transportation, student services, etc.
  • Conduct staff meetings to keep members informed of policy changes, new programs, and the like
  • Keep the Superintendent informed of the school's activities and issues
  • Notify the Office of the Superintendent when absence from the building is necessary
  • Utilize law enforcement resources when the safety and/or welfare of the students and/or teachers is/are threatened
  • Construct course schedules, master schedules, and schedules of students
  • Exercise fiduciary responsibilities for the building accounts and activity accounts in the Principal's jurisdiction
  • Subscribe to a code of ethics worth emulating and treat all people within the educational community fairly, equitably, and with dignity and respect
  • Perform other such responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent or designee

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

  • Frequent district-wide and occasional statewide travel
  • Occasional prolonged and irregular hours
  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling

  • Prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions
  • Regular on-site attendance
