Serves as a Lifeguard/Swim Instructor at the Fort MacArthur Pool. Performs rescues and resuscitates individuals in danger, promptly administers appropriate levels of first aid within certified scope and calls for medical assistance as needed. Conducts swimming lessons and instruction to individuals or groups of adults and/or children following a prescribed lesson plan as provided by the supervisor. Warns swimmers of unsafe hazards and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail. Monitors swimming area and facility to ensure safety of patrons and staff. Maintains order and enforces established safety rules and behavior. Instructs patrons on rules and procedures for safe swimming. Ensures diving boards and slides are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and reports problems or incidences to supervisor in timely manner. Participates in required in-service training sessions. Monitors Chlorine and Ph chemical levels every two hours to ensure pool water meets specified Air Force OSHA Standard 48-14 (AFOSHSTD); Documents results; notifies management and follows Bio Environmental and Engineering (BEE) protocol when levels are not in compliance. Other duties in support of the pool's daily operation also include completing appropriate forms and logs for incidents, safety, and cleaning. Opening and closing duties include the preparation of chemicals, cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pool, pool decks, spray park, and sunbathing areas. Ensures the swimming area is open at scheduled times. May Perform entrance control duties including, allowing only authorized persons to be admitted into pool area, collecting fee's, use cash register and complete deposit documents. Environmental Factors: Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Involves long periods of exposure to sun and chlorinated water. Physical exertion required in effective swimming rescue

Qualifying Experience:
Must have or be able to obtain a nationally recognized lifeguarding certification within 30 days of employment to include the ability to swim 300 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, tread water for 2 minutes using legs only, to retrieve a 10 lb. Dive brick from 10 feet deep, surface and swim 20 yards with weight using legs only and exit the pool without using a ladder within 100 seconds. Must have working knowledge of equipment such as: First aid kits, buoys, rings, shepherd's hooks, and backboards. Experience which provides a practical knowledge of instructional and developmental teaching methods, swimming activities is highly desired. Knowledge of pool rules, procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Must successfully complete local and national agency checks as well as state and national criminal background checks.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
