The Security Specialist provides corporate oversight and support for physical security protection of AmSty people/assets and compliance across all AmSty sites. Part of this role is providing functional leadership, expertise, counsel, and governance of AmSty company physical security standards/processes, security projects, issues/initiatives relative to physical security, and compliance assurance with relative security to U.S. laws and regulations. This job may also involve interacting with other AmSty positions to coordinate crisis management and emergency planning, community interaction, preparation, and response.

Responsible for effective implementation of company security standard, programs, and practices. Serves as the company’s security subject matter expert, supporting AmSty’s performance against the Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) commitments.
This position will report to the Manager-Safety and Operational Excellence within the AmSty Functional EH&S Organization and will be located at the St. James Plant.
Primary Responsibilities
- Serves as subject matter expert for company physical security programs, including being the company SME for U.S. security compliance programs (e.g., U.S. Coast Guard Marine Transportation Security Act, DOT Security requirements, Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards, etc.)
- Serves as subject matter expert for the ACC Security Code of Practice and support achieving/sustaining RC14001:2015 certification.
- Provides coaching and electronic compliance tool management as related to company security programs
- Serves as company physical security audit expert (e.g., for annual MTSA audits)
- Participates in security root cause investigations, as needed
- Helps conduct investigations of theft, property destruction, criminal activity, etc. at all AmSty sites.
- Utilizes Operational Excellence Standards and site security procedures effectively, contributing to top quartile safety performance for the company
- Develops and delivers appropriate security training coordination, for all local and virtual employees
- Interacts regularly with all AmSty plants at various levels of the organization (Plant Managers, Facility Security Officers, etc.).
- Interacts with other AmSty corporate organizations (e.g., Legal, IT and HR department) as it relates to security compliance matters.
- Interact with AmSty’s IT organization as it relates to cyber security matters with overlap for physical security.
- Develops and maintains company standards and procedures as they relate to security
- Identifies and anticipates areas of security risk and set-in place a cohesive strategy across all functions to mitigate or reduce those risks
- Provides strategic guidance on security matters to the AmSty Leadership Team
- Provides a contact to external entities such as affiliated agencies (e.g., U.S. Coast Guard); industry/trade associations, etc
- Ensures AmSty has work processes and expertise in place to meet the company’s expectations, comply with relevant requirements specific to security, crisis management, emergency planning, emergency preparation, and emergency response
- Security includes physical security of all AmSty operations and sites, personnel security including executives and other key personnel, business travel security, investigations, audits and vulnerability assessments
- Emergency planning, preparedness, and response includes supporting site and facility emergency plans and processes for on-site emergencies related to physical security issues.
- Provides oversight for company FCC license management.
- Provides oversight for company management of Threat Assessment and Mass communication tool (AlertMedia)
- Provides direct oversight to the St. James Plant security program and the site’s third-party security contract service.
- Works other security-related improvement projects at the direction of the Vice President – EHS&S
- Previous work experience managing multi-site security programs, standards, and procedures
- Knowledgeable in U.S. Coast Guard Marine Transportation Safety Act (MTSA) Facility Security Requirements.
- Knowledgeable in U.S. DOT Security requirements.
- Have a current or be capable of immediately obtaining a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
- Must be able to travel outside the U.S. and hold a valid passport
- Have a degree in Homeland Security or related field.
- Knowledge of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) considered a plus.
- Experience working for security-related organizations (e.g., agencies, law enforcement, etc.) considered a plus.
- Experience with Colombia security requirements considered a plus
