Associate Director
ROLE:
An employee in this role will provide significant leadership for the organization, as outlined within this job description. This employee is a significant administrator of all NCSG programs including State Finals, workshops, and Local Games. Further, this employee will assist in the public relations aspects of the organization, including individual fundraising, helping to maintain agency relationships, making public presentations related to the mission of NCSG and coordinating annual workshops. Other special tasks, such as assisting with legislative advocacy, may be required.
REPORTS TO:
An employee in this role will report directly to the President and Executive Director of North Carolina Senior Games, Inc.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Employee must possess significant leadership experience and knowledge of program operations and procedures to perform the tasks associated with this role. A Master’s Degree in Parks and Recreation and at least 5 years of organizational, administrative and supervisory experience is preferred. Other necessary skills and experiences are: teaching and instructional skills; effective interpersonal and team-building skills; experience in coordinating and planning programs; and strong communication and public speaking skills. Computer skills with knowledge of a variety of software packages, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, are required. Work involves responsibility for ensuring compliance with established guidelines and responding within established time frames. Some travel within the state of North Carolina is a characteristic of this position. Office space is provided at the NCSG office in Raleigh, with some remote work a viable option.
NATURE OF WORK
An employee in this position will independently perform a variety of executive, financial and public relations tasks, including, but not limited to:
• Providing leadership in the planning and administration of all programs and policies of the organization
• Taking an active role in maintaining agency relationships
• Assisting in the promotion of NCSG and its mission, products and services through public speaking engagements; authoring of articles for periodicals, newsletters and the general public; and working with public and private organizations for the promotion of the health of persons 50 and better
• Performing critical roles related to the production of State Finals registration and all State Finals events, and providing organizational support as needed for other State Finals events
• Providing leadership for the organization’s public relations activities, helping to maintain agency relationships, making public presentations related to the mission of NCSG and working in conjunction with the NCSG staff to implement the statewide annual workshops
• Providing planning and leadership roles in the areas of Local Games and program development and enhancement; • Assisting in the provision of timely, updated information to stakeholders (Board members, participants, Local Coordinators, Ambassadors, et. al.) relative to legislative advocacy opportunities
• Directing NCSG support for Local Games staff, steering committee members, board members and others
• Assisting with the recruitment, retention and recognition of individual contributors
• Taking an active role with Registration-data entry, if needed, proofing (ensuring all SilverArts data are correct)
• Coordinating all aspects of State Finals SilverArts
• Serving as a member of the State Finals Coordination Committee
• Supporting Event coordination including scheduling and brackets
• Directing the NCSG Ambassador program including oversight of the Conference and year-round support, training and recruitment
• Directing the NCSG Cheerleader program
• Other duties as assigned by the President and Executive Director, including substituting for the Director when this person is unavailable in a manner appropriate to the job.
COMPENSATION and TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Compensation will be commensurate with experience and proficiency level. An employee in this position will be entitled to life insurance, health benefits and vacation, sick leave and paid holidays; and, with at least six (6) months of service to NCSG, an employer-sponsored retirement plan. NCSG is not part of the local or state government retirement system. This is an exempt administrative position. A North Carolina Driver’s License with clean driving record is required.
