Role and Responsibilities
The essential responsibilities of this position, while not limited to the following, will include:
Setting Strategy
- Set a vision for a broadly expanded Relay that includes growing/adding big lanes to the institution: a school of education (with graduate and undergraduate certificates and degrees), a wide array of professional learning services for educators (both teachers and leaders), and an innovation center (with a focus on product development and strategic partnerships)
- Lead the adaptive and technical changes needed to expand Relay responsibly, adaptively, and rapidly – through organic scaling and/or a merger with a complementary organization
- While developing and working toward a more expansive Relay, lead Relay's current SY25 - SY27 strategic plan, focused on impactful programs, meaningful innovation, and financial/organizational sustainability
- Identify and accelerate toward opportunities that advance the institution's strategic priorities and mission
- Lead the institution to achieve its strategic goals over the next three years
- Ensure clear and consistent progress-monitoring and reporting–to the Board, Exec, and Staff–re the strategic plan
- Lead Relay to a financially and organizationally sustainable future over the next several years
- Build and maintain strong relationships and communication with board members
- Recruit, retain, and inspire 4-6 new board members over the next three years
- Develop and manage the Executive Team as individuals and as a team
- Ensure the team's meetings and other activities are focused on clear strategic outcomes and problem-solving to achieve said outcomes
- Serve as Relay's #1 ambassador and champion, inspiring partners to send their educators to Relay; inspiring clients to adopt Relay's services and products; and inspiring funders to support Relay's vision, mission, and more comprehensive structure
- Narrate and represent Relay's vision, mission, values, programs, and major initiatives and outcomes internally and externally
- Build internal and external clarity and investment in this expanded vision of Relay
- At least five years successfully leading a large and complex ($20M+, 50+ employees) education organization
- Multi-year track record growing an organization's impact and sustainability in terms of students/clients served, educational outcomes, earned revenue, and net positive financial margin
- Multi-year track record of fundraising $10M+ annually from public, private, for-profit, and non-profit sources
- Multi-year experience leading senior Executive Team / Cabinet to positive experiences (as individuals and as a team) and outcomes (as institutional leaders)
- Outstanding communication skills and prior experience with using those skills for both organization-wide investment/change management (at events like Town Halls and senior leadership meetings) and external events, such as giving keynotes leading "mainstage" presentations at large-scale international/national conferences
