SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST
- You will plan, organize, and direct Occupational Safety and Health projects to minimize or eliminate human injury, property, and/or productivity losses.
- You will develop supplements to current Occupational Safety and Health standards and regulations.
- You will work closely with various shipyard personnel to implement or improve program requirements.
- You will investigate reports and gather mishap statistics and take appropriate action to prevent further mishaps.
- You will participate in meetings where you will be expected to provide insight and give recommendations on causes for root cause analysis.
- You will provide training material and guidance to subordinate Occupational Safety and Health personnel.
- You will oversee industrial work, inspect facilities and work spaces, perform inspections, and/or audits to meet regulatory requirements and ensure a safe workplace.

- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
For GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector assessing safety and occupational health program regulations for industrial construction, repair, overhaul or maintenance operations to ensure workplace safety.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.
