Information Technology Security Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Freelance IT Security Specialist to ensure the security and compliance of our digital infrastructure. This role requires a deep understanding of IT security, regulatory compliance, and the unique needs of the oil, gas, and brokerage industries. The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing security measures, identifying vulnerabilities, and ensuring that all systems and data meet industry regulations on a flexible, contract basis.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and manage IT security policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular security audits to assess vulnerabilities and mitigate risks.
• Monitor network traffic for unusual activity and perform penetration testing.
• Ensure compliance with global security standards and industry-specific regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, FINRA, SEC, FERC, anti-money laundering).
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure security protocols are followed.
• Respond to security breaches, managing recovery and reporting.
• Provide security awareness training to staff.
• Oversee outside sender verification processes for email and data compliance.
• Stay current on industry best practices and compliance updates, particularly in the oil, gas, and brokerage sectors.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience (3+ years) in IT security, with a focus on cloud-based infrastructure and data security.
• Strong knowledge of firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and other security technologies.
• Experience with security audits and regulatory compliance in the oil, gas, and brokerage industries (e.g., Sarbanes-Oxley, Dodd-Frank, MiFID II).
• Familiarity with security tools like Nessus, Metasploit, and Wireshark.
• Understanding of brokerage-specific compliance, including KYC (Know Your Customer) and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) regulations.
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate across teams and report to stakeholders.
• Certification such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent is a plus.
