Job Title: Senior Controls Engineer

Position Overview:

We are looking for a Senior Controls Engineer to provide technical leadership in evaluating and implementing automation and control systems improvements aimed at enhancing the efficiency, quality, compliance, and safety of our manufacturing operations. The role involves assessing existing process controls, proposing improvements, and working closely with maintenance teams. You will play a key role in supporting large projects, including automation design, implementation, and validation, while ensuring adherence to established engineering practices and documentation standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned equipment and control systems, providing technical leadership in troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Perform independent analysis and develop creative solutions to complex problems. Identify opportunities for process improvement, machine control, network/server enhancements, and cost-saving measures.
  • Create and update P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and I/O drawings for control systems.
  • Oversee the scope, design, FAT, SAT, start-up, commissioning, and validation of equipment and control systems. Perform developmental or test work requiring deep knowledge of control theory and design.
  • Design and program control systems, including AC/DC drives, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, vision systems, and robot controllers. Lead projects from initiation through to completion, following program management guidelines.
  • Provide technical input for long-range equipment replacement plans and short-term continuous improvement projects.
  • Use a methodical approach to root cause analysis and develop robust solutions to recurring technical issues.
  • Support the improvement of manufacturing systems, such as OEE, quality, performance, uptime, maintenance, MUV, and scrap reduction.
  • Independently handle problems of varying complexity, applying analytical skills to evaluate data and suggest improvements.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineers to ensure proper qualification for new or modified processes and equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with cGMP in all areas of responsibility.
  • May supervise teams during project-specific tasks and assist with training new employees on equipment usage, system documentation, and departmental procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with managers, peers, and customers, ensuring clear and frequent updates to promote collaboration across teams.
  • Actively resolve conflicts and promote consensus within cross-functional teams.
  • Work on special projects as required.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong understanding of automation systems, plastic injection molding, assembly processes, fixturing, testing, and process control techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge in controls engineering, with the ability to make independent decisions that directly impact project outcomes.
  • Expertise in Rockwell, FactoryTalk, and Allen Bradley programming environments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of equipment strategy, with the ability to recommend and implement effective solutions to critical issues.
  • Proven ability to analyze data and solve complex technical problems independently.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in controls engineering or a related field.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Work Environment:

  • This position primarily operates in an office environment and uses standard office equipment.
  • Work is also performed in a clean room environment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Travel requirements are minimal (less than 5%).
