Job Title: Sr. Business Intelligence Analyst II

We are seeking a Sr. Business Intelligence Analyst II who develops the buildout and maintenance of data to support School of Medicine s Central Finance function and manages a 'Data and Report Inventory' for approved and recommended reports.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Coordinates

  • Creates the initial build out and maintenance of data tools to support the organization. Maintains a 'Data and Report Inventory' of approved reports.

Applies

  • Applies knowledge of the Central Finance organization and its data to inform the build out and maintenance of data, develop tools, and plan future analytics assets.

Creates/Prepares/Develops

  • Develops new tools and means to use data at the School and department levels. Develops a 'Data and Report Inventory' for approved and recommended reports.

Analyzes/Interprets

  • Analyzes the current data infrastructure of an organization to determine how to build out and maintain data to support the organization.

Manages

  • Manages the initial build out, maintenance, and future buildout of data tools in the organization.

Problem Solving

  • Verifies and validates data to approve reports and catalog them in the 'Data and Report Inventory'.
  • Analyzes data and the data infrastructure continuously to identify gaps where future buildout or new tools could be implemented.

Thinking Critically

  • Understands the organization and its data infrastructure to inform the initial build out and maintenance of the data. Determines which reports to catalog and curate for relevant stakeholder groups.

Trains/Communicates

  • Ensure that Central Finance, departments, and other colleagues are aware of the 'Data and Report Inventory' and can access recommended reports to inform their work.

Collaborates

  • Partner with Sr. Director of Analytics; FP&A colleagues; Financial Operations Colleagues; Faculty Practice Colleagues; Research Finance Colleagues; Department Directors, Administrators, and Staff; University Budget; University Controller; JHHS/JHM Finance Colleagues.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Requires excellent data and data analysis skills, including advanced Excel skills.
  • Requires analytical ability to gather data, perform transformation, complex analysis and solve both business and technical problems.
  • Expert proficiency with data preparation and business intelligence techniques and tools for the acquisition and transformation of raw data into meaningful and useful information.
  • Certification such as Certified Analytics Professional, PMP or certification in a data analytic tool (e.g., Tableau) preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.
  • Occasionally lifting, carrying objects weighing 10lbs. or less.
  • Occasionally pushing, pulling objects weighing 30lbs. or less.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Business/Data Analytics or a related field.
  • Six plus years of progressively responsible financial and business operations experience, preferably in a large and complex organization, with at least 3 years direct data analytics experience.
  • Proven communication, organizational, and analytic skills in a complex organization.
  • Ability to analyze data for budgeting, operations, auditing, accounts receivable, and reserve analysis.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Additional experience may be substituted for education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master s Degree preferred.
  • Experience in financial/business management and/or academic business operations.
  • Significant experience in working with relational databases (e.g.,SQL), data analysis, data visualization tools (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
