Research and Development – Internship
Location: Pflugerville, TX
Hours: Paid 20+ hours per week (in-person); flexible with course schedules
Responsible Manager: Process Engineering Consultant
As a part of the Additive Minds Team, you will be
participating in exciting internal and external projects. You
will have a chance to learn about additive manufacturing
(AM) and get behind the scenes on how you can improve the
technology for production.
Your Mission:
• Contributing with the execution of ongoing AM
research projects and variety of research activities
• Support the research proposal process and work
closely with the Government & Technology
Consulting Team to write, edit, format, and finalize
Request for Proposals (RFPs)
• Research new grants and funding opportunities
• Provide support in analyzing, writing, and editing
proposals
• Assist in implementing upgrades to PBF machines
• Assist the project lead in the delivery and project
management processes
• Manage project documentation such as protocols,
reports, calibration certificates, and process trends
• Help define and standardize part acceptance
processes and requirements
• Perform data analysis and data records management
in line with the scope of project(s)
• Periodic material literature review and industry
engagement
• Summarize test results in report and presentation
formats
• Participating in conferences, workshops, and
meetings by giving scientific presentations and
providing comments
• Writing manuscripts, scope documents, white
papers, and public comments in response to
government proposals
• Performs other duties and responsibilities, as
assigned
Talents:
• Student must be currently seeking a Master’s/Ph.D.
degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Materials
Engineering, or similar field
• Student must be in good academic standing at their
university, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0
scale
• Experience in additive manufacturing (AM), ideally
powder-bed based technologies (metallic/polymeric) is
preferred, but not required
• Familiar with SolidWorks, Magics or other CAD software's
• Experience with Matlab and/or Python preferred
• Candidate must be able to work effectively in a
multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment
focused on innovation and have demonstrated both
verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to follow lab safety requirements
• Self-starter with keen eye towards problem solving and
driving solutions
• Strong presentation, planning, problem solving,
organizational, and project management skills
• Experience with basic engineering analysis
• Strong technical aptitude, including applicable
engineering tools and systems
• Ability to work on complex or undefined problems and
quickly identify and address critical issues
• Demonstrate awareness of industrial and laboratory
safety practices
• Ability to create an environment of trust, compliance,
continuous improvement, and learning
• Ability to relate with people at all levels within an
organization, including diverse cultures
• Occasional travel may be required
