Job Overview

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Safety Manager to oversee and enhance the safety program at a large power generation plant in New York City. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing, coordinating, and ensuring compliance with all safety programs and regulations while driving continuous improvement in safety standards and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

  • Lead compliance reviews, risk assessments, and other safety evaluations to support Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) management.
  • Investigate incidents, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety laws and regulations.
  • Provide expert guidance on safety matters and make recommendations to plant management.
  • Develop and conduct comprehensive safety training programs.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, PPE usage, and immediate hazard correction.
  • Maintain strong relationships with management, union employees, and regulatory agencies.

Plant-Specific Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Organize and lead daily, weekly, and monthly safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Develop, implement, and manage safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure proper selection, use, and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Enforce compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements, along with internal EH&S policies.
  • Assist in emergency response preparedness and provide first aid treatment when necessary.
  • Assist in developing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
  • Oversee and maintain compliance programs such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, and Hot Work.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an EH&S role within a manufacturing, construction, or utility environment.
  • Experience in a unionized workplace.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
