Director, Supply Chain and Purchasing

Our client, a Global Automotive Supplier, is seeking an experienced Director of Supply Chain and Purchasing. This position is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the end-to-end supply chain functions, including sourcing, procurement, inventory management, logistics, Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) within a fast-paced Global Automotive Supplier with International Supply Chains. The role requires strong leadership and strategic decision-making abilities to ensure operational efficiency, cost control, and alignment with the overall business objectives. This position leads all aspects of Supply Chain and Purchasing working closely with the Senior Leadership Team and Plant Management Teams to drive continuous improvement, manage supplier relationships and support the company’s production and operational goals.
Responsibilities:
Supply Chain Strategy & Leadership:
- Develop and implement supply chain strategies to support manufacturing goals, improve operational efficiency, and meet customer demands.
- Lead and mentor a team of supply chain and purchasing professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Work with senior leadership to align supply chain strategies with broader company goals, ensuring the optimization of resources and processes.
Purchasing & Procurement:
- Oversee all purchasing activities, ensuring cost-effective acquisition of raw materials, components, and services.
- Oversee or Lead negotiations with suppliers, managing contracts, pricing agreements, and terms to secure the best value for the company.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing suppliers and identify potential new suppliers to ensure a reliable supply chain.
Inventory Management:
- Ensure optimal inventory levels are maintained to support production needs while minimizing carrying costs.
- Oversee inventory forecasting, planning, and control processes, using data and market trends to make informed decisions.
- Implement systems and processes to minimize inventory risks, including stockouts, excess inventory, and obsolescence.
Logistics & Distribution:
- Manage logistics functions, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution, to ensure timely delivery of materials and products.
- Collaborate with external logistics providers to improve cost efficiency, delivery timelines, and service levels.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards for supply chain operations.
Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP):
- Oversee and Lead the S&OP process, ensuring sales forecasts, production schedules, and inventory levels to meet customer demand while optimizing supply chain resources.
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Production, and Finance teams to balance demand and supply, ensuring inventory is aligned with production capabilities and market requirements.
- Analyze sales trends and production capacity to proactively manage potential risks and bottlenecks in the supply chain.
- Regularly review and adjust the S&OP plan to reflect changes in customer demand, production schedules, and market conditions.
Cost Control & Budget Management:
- Monitor supply chain and purchasing budgets, ensuring cost control and financial targets are met.
- Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and other metrics to identify areas for cost savings and process improvements.
- Develop and implement cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining the quality of materials and services.
Risk Management & Compliance:
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with the supply chain, including disruptions, quality issues, and supplier reliability.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards in purchasing, transportation, and logistics activities.
- Drive sustainability initiatives and ethical sourcing practices within the supply chain.
Continuous Improvement:
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement by utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies to enhance processes and efficiency.
- Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive innovation within the supply chain and purchasing functions.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Purchasing or other related field of study
- Minimum of 10 years related experience in Supply Chain or related field
- Automotive manufacturing experience preferred
- 5+ years of supervisory/leadership experience
- Experience with SOX, J-SOX environment
- CPIM or CSCP certification (APICS) desired
