Financial Controller
About the Role
We seek a passionate, detail-oriented Financial Controller, excited to jump into a hands-on role, owning the financial operations of one of the fastest growing Series A startups of our time. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will champion accounting excellence and financial reporting, empowering the entire organization with accurate financial data that drives informed business decisions.
In this role, your focus will be simple: ensure financial integrity. You will be the leading voice on accounting standards and financial controls, empowering the finance team with the processes they need to scale their operations as effectively as possible. You will collaborate directly with the finance team and department leaders, recording, validating, and analyzing all facets of revenue and expenses, with the objective to build the financial foundation that will bring POSH to 100M users and beyond.
What You'll Learn & Achieve
Financial Reporting and Accounting:
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Develop and maintain robust accounting policies, procedures, and controls to support the company's rapid growth.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Manage cash flow forecasting and treasury operations to optimize working capital.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax filing requirements, coordinating with external tax advisors as needed.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to mitigate financial risks
- Manage our external audit relationships and lead the preparation for annual audits.
- Stay current on accounting standards and regulatory changes that impact our financial operations.
Operational Finance:
- Own the integrity of historical financial data to support accurate business analysis and decision-making.
- Develop comprehensive financial reports and dashboards that provide visibility into key accounting metrics and business performance.
- Maintain robust revenue recognition practices and expense allocation methodologies across all business units.
- Lead process improvement initiatives to streamline financial operations, reduce manual processes, and enhance financial controls.
- Oversee vendor payment processes and ensure compliance with payment terms and company policies.
- Collaborate with department leaders to establish financial controls for departmental spending and vendor relationships.
Who You Are
- 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, with some leadership experience, ideally in fast-paced, high-growth startup environments
- CPA certification and public accounting experience strongly preferred, with demonstrated understanding of GAAP and experience preparing financial statements and managing audit processes.
- You have extensive experience with accounting software (e.g. NetSuite, QuickBooks), HRIS platforms (e.g. Rippling), and financial planning tools, with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily.
- You are meticulous about financial accuracy while still maintaining the agility required in a fast-growing startup.
- You have an expert understanding of revenue recognition principles, particularly in marketplace business models.
- You have a demonstrated ability to drive prioritization of work, and improve productivity/output using automation.
- You are an exceptional communicator, with the ability to translate complex financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders.
- You are highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives, projects, and priorities simultaneously.
