- A bachelor’s degree or higher in education or a related scientific field including chemistry, biology, physics, and geosciences
- A minimum of 3 years teaching experience
- Knowledge of the social, emotional, and academic needs of middle school-age students
- Well-versed in best practices for delivering science, especially in project-based environments
- A student-centered pedagogy and comfort with differentiating instruction
- Experience with curriculum development and curriculum integration, varied assessment strategies, and constructivist teaching/learning approaches
- Strong skills in teaching a design process of ideation, experimentation, analysis, and iteration
- The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and families
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong executive management, organizational, and scheduling skills
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Introduction to Physical Science, Anatomy and Physiology, and Responsive Classroom curricula a plus
- Teach two sections each of 7th and 8th grade middle school science
- Serve as an advisor for a group of middle school students.
- Teach an elective and collaborate on a project-based learning course.
- Participate in grade-level and department meetings.
- All Middle School teachers chaperone an annual multi-day capstone trip.
- Leads a nationally recognized Environmental Science Club for students.
- Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Middle School.
- Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times.
- Must be able to traverse school facilities and lead students to safety in an emergency.
- Long periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
