OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT
The Water Conservation Program Specialist – Landscape Designer position is an exciting opportunity to impact Aurora Water’s conservation efforts by providing practical and aesthetic water-wise landscape designs for our customers. Aurora Water is seeking a professional or student with strong landscape design skills and knowledge of Colorado or Front Range appropriate water-wise plants. This is a 29 hour-per-week, Variable Hour Non-Benefits Eligible position. This position reports to the Water Conservation Specialist – Water-wise Garden and Landscape Programs position.

- Mid-level Landscape Architecture or Landscape Design studies completed
- At least 1 year of experience completing residential water-wise landscape designs
- Experience completing commercial/multi-family water-wise landscape designs preferred but not required
- Licensed Landscape Architect preferred but not required
- Knowledge of water-wise landscape design principles
- Knowledge of Colorado or Front Range appropriate water-wise plant species and characteristics
- Strong design skills
- Skilled in AutoCAD
- Skilled in hand drafting
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers
- Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner
- Landscape Designer certification preferred but not required
Essential Personnel:
- When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
- Continuous sedentary physical work that involves moving no more than 10 pounds at a time with or without assistance
- Clear vision to read and interpret documents
- Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and customers
- Hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard
- Works primarily indoors in a clean office environment
- May infrequently work outdoors in varying weather conditions with potential exposure to noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, and animals including stinging insects
- Uses standard office equipment including personal computer and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel, and AutoCAD
- This position may require the use of a personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, etc.) in the course of employment
