Position Overview
The primary responsibility of the Cloud Data Store Engineer is to work with the product engineering and cloud infrastructure teams, focusing on delivering, operating, and evolving cloud-based database, caching, and message brokering solutions. The Engineer will also work closely with the corporate technology team to build, manage, automate, and support our cloud infrastructure in AWS.
The position demands someone who is detail-oriented, possesses high technical competency, and is driven to stay current with evolving technologies.
All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and Las Vegas Sands Corp.'s policies, practices, and procedures. All Las Vegas Sands Corp. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to implement technical solutions, mechanisms, and procedures that help the business operate efficiently.
- Design, build, and operationalize, and support highly available databases, NoSQL data stores, caching services, and messaging solutions that are secure, scalable, resilient, and performant in the AWS cloud.
- Provision, configure and maintain AWS data services and infrastructure, using infrastructure as code (Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation, et al).
- Take initiative to identify and seize opportunities to eliminate waste, redundancy, and complexity.
- Manage a queue of work requests to meet service level objectives and KPIs.
- Execute incident, problem and change management processes and reporting as needed.
- Perform job duties in a safe manner.
- Attend work as scheduled on a consistent and regular basis.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 21 years of age.
- Proof of authorization to work in the United States.
- Educational background in information systems, informatics, statistics, computer science, or similar quantitative field.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain any certification or license, as required by law or policy.
- 3+ years operating highly available PostgreSQL database clusters in the cloud, preferably on Amazon RDS or Amazon Aurora.
- High level competency with containerization and deploying services to Kubernetes, preferably Amazon EKS.
- Experience operating infrastructure deployments with Terraform, particularly as they related to databases and messaging systems.
- Experience working with event streaming platforms such as Kafka, Kinesis, and/or NATS.
- Mastery of SQL.
- Competency programming in Python. Experience with GoLang is a plus.
- Strong understanding AWS security mechanisms, particularly as they relate to AWS data services like S3, RDS, Elasticache, MSK, Kinesis, and DynamoDB.
- Experience with GitHub, DataDog, and AWS.
- Ability to learn/use a wide variety of open-source technologies and tools without formal training.
- Experience working with an on-shore / off-shore model.
- Strong bias for action and ownership.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain any certification or license, as required by law or policy.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and interact appropriately with management, other Team Members and outside contacts of different backgrounds and levels of experience.
