Essential Duties
Core Competencies
Completes and evaluates preventive maintenance for all light duty and heavy-duty vehicles.
Operates a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, or air driven tools.
Inspects, adjusts, and replaces related parts in the performance of minor repair and maintenance work.
Changes and repairs tires and tubes.
Evaluates status of mechanical, hydraulic equipment and vehicles, and performs or assists in scheduled needed repairs.
Provides road call assistance to disabled equipment as needed and appropriate.
Maintains the security of issued city owned equipment. (e.g., tools, toolbox, safety equipment)
Assists in the coordination of assignments and ensures assignments are completed correctly and in a timely manner.
Operates radio for communications between self and other workers.
Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations; possesses and maintains a valid driver’s license and complies with City of Killeen driving policy.
Performs all On-call assignments as outlined in On-Call Schedule and Departmental Policy. Performs other duties as assigned.

Tools and Equipment Used
Power and hand tools and equipment for vehicle mechanical maintenance and repair work; mechanic’s tools including jacks, hydraulic lifts, air tools, and other tools required for minor repairs and routine maintenance of motorized vehicles; electronic vehicle diagnostic equipment; safety equipment, as necessary; telephone; mobile or portable radio; personal computer, and safety equipment as required.

- Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools used in modern equipment maintenance.
- Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors, and the public.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
- Must have a valid Texas Class C driver's license by date of hire and comply with the City of Killeen driving policy.
- Must have or acquire within thirty (30) days from date of hire all National Institute Management System (N.I.M.S.) certifications as required by City and position.
