This role focuses on the fabrication of underground racks using square tube steel and strut with a MIG welding machine.

Job Summary:

The VDC Pre Fabrication Welder – Underground Rack Fabrication is responsible for producing high-quality welds on square tube steel structures used in underground electrical installations. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong technical skills, and a commitment to safety and quality standards. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team working to meet project specifications and deadlines.

Essential Job Functions

This is a list of the most prominent duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform MIG welding on square tube steel to fabricate underground racks according to specifications and drawings.
  • Interpret technical drawings to determine welding requirements and layout.
  • Set up and operate MIG welding machines and related equipment
  • Ensure equipment is calibrated and maintained in good working condition.
  • Conduct quality inspections of completed work to ensure it meets company and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with a team of fabricators, engineers, and other welders to achieve project goals.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
  • Monitor inventory and report material needs and shortages to the supervisor.
  • Participate in safety meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Willing to work overtime to include Saturdays as required.


Education & Experience

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a MIG welder, preferably in an electrical or construction setting.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of welding techniques and materials, especially square tube steel.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to welding and fabrication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions


Preferred

  • Welding certification.
  • Availability to work overtime on a frequent basis at premium pay.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Capable of standing, bending, and moving for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures.
