Job Title: Accessibility Specialist (Tester)
Location: Newark, NJ, USA (Onsite 1 or 2 day per week)
Duration: 12 months+ or full time

Job Summary:
The Onsite Accessibility Specialist will be responsible for ensuring digital accessibility compliance across web and mobile applications. This role requires working closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, developers, and business stakeholders, to integrate accessibility best practices throughout the software development lifecycle. The specialist will conduct audits, provide remediation guidance, and help ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA(Web Content Accessibility 2. 1 AA Guidelines).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Accessibility Compliance & Audits
- Conduct accessibility audits and assessments for websites, mobile applications, and digital platforms.
- Identify and document accessibility barriers and provide remediation recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 regulations.
2. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work onsite with UX designers, developers, business analysts, and project managers to incorporate accessibility from the design phase.
- Provide hands-on guidance to teams for fixing accessibility issues in real-time.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops for internal teams on accessibility standards and best practices.
3. Testing & Remediation
- Perform manual and automated accessibility testing using tools like Axe, JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver etc.
- Collaborate with development teams to troubleshoot and remediate accessibility issues.
- Validate accessibility fixes before deployment.
4. Documentation & Compliance Reporting
- Develop accessibility compliance reports, VPATs, and audit findings.
- Maintain detailed documentation of accessibility evaluations and remediation steps.
- Keep up to date with evolving accessibility laws, guidelines, and industry trends.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in WCAG 2.1 standards.
- Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and accessibility-related development practices.
- Hands-on experience with screen readers and assistive technologies (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack).
- Familiarity with accessibility testing tools (Axe, WAVE, Lighthouse, Tenon).
- Understanding of document accessibility (PDF, Word, Excel) using tools like Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office.
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional, onsite team environment.
- Strong stakeholder management and presentation skills.
