HR Compliance Specialist

Position Summary
The HR Compliance Specialist will play an instrumental role in managing risk and enforcing wage and hour compliance for Marsden operating companies nationwide. This position collects, compiles, analyzes and reports compliance data, metrics, and statistics, and applies this data to make recommendations related to risk management and/or legal compliance. Collaborating closely with HR, Operations and Legal cross-functional teams, the HR Compliance Specialist will utilize various data sources and analytical tools to identify trends, develop models, and provide actionable recommendations to mitigate risk to the organization and ensure daily enforcement of Company policies to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Monitoring
- Perform risk assessment and assist in developing and implementing priorities to improve wage and hour compliance (with a specific focus on CA wage and hour issues).
- Analyze data reporting and Company policies in order to minimize risk.
- Conduct periodic audits of records and processes to detect compliance gaps and communicate results, including making recommendations to Operations leadership, HR, and the Legal Department in a concise and comprehensive manner.
Training
- Provide training and education support to Operations leaders and employees to improve compliance with laws and Company policies.
Process Improvement
- Leveraging data analytics and key stakeholder partnerships, advise the business on the Company’s processes, procedures, systems, and reports on compliance issues to mitigate risk.
- Recommend process improvements and technology enhancements needed to resolve gaps.
- Be the subject matter expert on wage and hour compliance and labor compliance.
Enforcement
- Works directly with field leadership to address and resolve gaps in compliance.
- Provide detailed reporting in Excel to keep senior leadership informed of successes as well as areas of non-compliance including action plans, support requests to remove barriers, and address patterns of compliance gaps needing timely attention.
Education and Experience
- 3+ years relevant compliance experience required. Must possess technical experience, including developing compliance metrics, reporting and dashboards.
- 3+ years relevant wage and hour compliance experience in California is required, including compliant wage statements, off-the-clock work, overtime, and meal and rest breaks.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and/or related work experience.
- Demonstrates problem solving and analytical skills and ability to gather detailed information and present results accurately and concisely.
- Experience as a labor or wage & hour auditor, human resources, or other auditing experience highly preferred.
- Must be highly proficient in data analytics and Excel.
