  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with the appropriate teacher certification;
  • A minimum of 3 years of successful experience as a classroom teacher in the secondary school content area associated with the assignment (high school experience preferred);
  • Deep knowledge of the subject-area content and research-based instructional strategies/practices;
  • Capacity to lead content-area teaching teams for the purpose of improving instruction and student achievement; and

Essential Functions

  • Coach teachers to ensure that first-time instruction is strong and aligned.
  • Support new teachers by visiting classrooms, assisting with classroom management, and conferring to address individual student needs/concerns.
  • Coach teachers to use a variety of current research-based instructional strategies, technology, and content-specific knowledge through participation and facilitation of professional development.
  • Facilitate vertical alignment of instructional strategies among courses and levels.
  • Coach teachers to increase rigor at all levels and student engagement in all classrooms.
  • Model expert lessons, observe classroom instruction, and follow-up with coaching sessions.
  • Support teachers in their classroom to ensure proper delivery and implementation of lessons.
  • Provide or assist in direct instruction of students as needed.
  • Collaborate with teams and individual teachers during planning meetings and classroom visits to ensure lesson and assessment development is aligned with the content scope/sequence and TEKS.
  • Support the use of iXplore so that its fullest capacity is realized: lesson planning, resource selection, assessments, data digging, and data interpretation for instructional decisions.
  • Support teams and individual teachers through data analysis to adjust first-time instruction and/or to focus on re-teaching.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
